Chapter 568 Lingering Scars
The second pattern went down.
Then the third.
Then the fourth.

None of the bells made a sound. Instead, faint matching marks lit up on the stone platform every time.
When it was time for the last one, Riley pressed the bell pattern in the top-right corner.
The entire hall went dead silent for a split second.
TartKing tightened her grip on her greatsword.
Pineapple Beer crouched low, ready to melt into the shadows at any second.
One wrong move, and trap mobs would spawn from the stone walls.
One beat passed.
Two beats.
Click.
The short lines on the five-line door lit up one after another.
The stone door slowly swung inward.
TartKing let out a big sigh of relief. “We nailed it!”
Pineapple Beer looked at Riley. “You fixed it as soon as you got here.”
Riley shook her head. “You two did all the trial runs first. That’s what saved us time.”

Beyond the five-line stone door lay no long passage, only a tiny sealed stone chamber.
A single copper shard hovered in the center of the room.

It was larger than the shards they’d gotten before. Five thin lines ran along its edge. There were no dots on the back, but the front was carved with a full, smooth pendulum curve.
Riley reached up and took the shard down.
A system prompt popped up right away.
[Obtained: Five-Tone Copper Shard]
The system gave no extra details.
TartKing leaned in for a closer look. “This is definitely for the seven-line door puzzle coming up.”
PineappleBeer turned her attention to the walls.
A faint, shallow carving covered the stone surface. It showed twelve bells arranged in a circle, with a broken arc cutting through the center.
PineappleBeer memorized the design, then walked back to the central platform and added the new clue to their notes.
“The seven-line door isn’t gonna rely on simple door markings anymore.”
Riley glanced over at the seven-line door.
It sat at the very back of the hall, marked with seven short lines.
Unlike the five-line door’s straight, lined-up marks, these seven lines formed a rough semicircle. Two crossed over each other, one was split down the middle, and another had a tiny broken-bell carving right beside it.

“We tried the seven-line puzzle once before,” TartKing explained. “Three trap mobs spawned. Pine took out two, and I finished the last one.”
Riley’s eyes drifted to the greatsword slung over Tart King’s back.
TartKing had a soft, cute look, but she hit hard with that huge greatsword and never held back in a fight.
“Did you get hurt?” Riley asked.
“Nope!” TartKing answered quickly. “Just some tiny claw scratches.”
Pineapple Beer cut in bluntly. “On her wrist.”
TartKing shot her a glare. “You didn’t have to snitch!”
Riley held out her hand.
TartKing hesitated for a second, then held out her wrist obediently.
There were faint claw marks and bruising on her skin. It didn’t look serious now, but the wounds were still fresh.
“I already cleaned it up,” TartKing mumbled. “It’s almost fully healed.”
Riley looked at her seriously. “Be more careful next time.”
“But Pine was behind the mobs back then,” TartKing argued. “If I hadn’t stepped in and blocked them, they would’ve wrecked the platform. If that breaks, we’re stuck here for good.”
Pineapple Beer fell quiet for a moment.
“I could’ve dodged it,” Pineapple Beer said quietly.
“Still, I could’ve helped,” TartKing muttered stubbornly.
Riley watched them bicker, both too stubborn for their own good.
She didn’t push the topic further. She pulled a potion out of her bag and tossed it to TartKing.
“ToxicReaper made these. They restore max HP. Regular healing potions don’t work well on these lingering wounds.”
TartKing’s face lit up right away. “Thanks, Burger!”
