Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 1269

When Camila mentioned Dennis Williams, her voice was so sweet that it made Melissa George smile too. “Alright, let’s get going,” Melissa said, and soon the couple headed out the door.

Camila read for a while, then went back to her room to get ready. By the time Dennis came home, it was already getting dark. As he walked through the door, Camila had just finished getting dressed. She wore a pale purple dress she’d bought recently. The high neckline made her slender neck look even more graceful. The dress hugged her waist, and a layer of soft white trim kept her from looking too thin. To stay warm, she had thrown on a white coat.

As soon as she saw Dennis walk in, Camila practically skipped over to him. She spun around, her eyes shining with happiness. “Dennis, how do I look?”

Dennis couldn’t take his eyes off her. “You look beautiful. More beautiful than ever,” he said.

He stepped closer, wrapped his arm around her waist, and pulled her into a gentle, lingering kiss.

When they finally parted, Camila frowned a little, though it was more playful than annoyed. “I just finished my makeup. I bet my lipstick is a mess now.”

She wasn’t really complaining. When she was with Dennis, it was impossible to resist him.

Dennis held her close, his eyes warm. “It’s alright. You’re always beautiful. Are you ready to go?”

“Yeah,” Camila replied.

She thought he was taking her out for a date, but as they drove, the route started to look familiar. Camila felt a little surprised. When they pulled up at Eagle’s Peak Estate, night had already fallen.

“We’re here. Let’s get out,” Dennis said, stepping out and coming around to open the door for her.

Camila blinked in confusion. “I thought we were going out to eat. Why are we here?”

Dennis smiled. “You’ll see soon.”

He wasn’t going to tell her just yet. When Camila got out, he led her through the yard. The whole way, she felt like something was a little off, but she couldn’t put her finger on it.

Then, when she stepped into the yard and looked up, she froze. The beautiful ginkgo tree was covered in twinkling lights, glowing softly in the night. Golden sparkles dripped from the branches, and the rest of the yard was decorated too. Instead of just blank snow, everything was bright and colorful.

“Camila, will you marry me?”

Camila’s eyes went wide. She honestly couldn’t believe he was asking. Joy filled her so completely that she couldn’t speak.

Dennis waited, patient and calm. His gaze was so gentle. “At first, I thought we’d take things slow after you recovered. But then I realized it doesn’t matter when I propose or when we get married. Because you’re the only one I want to spend my life with. You. I’ve had these rings for a while, so this isn’t really out of nowhere.”

Camila had never imagined Dennis would propose tonight. After the first rush of happiness, she started to calm down. She wasn’t clueless. She could guess why he was in such a hurry to make things official.

It was her health, wasn’t it?

Was he worried she might not have much time?

A sudden wave of sadness swept over her, and her eyes stung with tears.
