Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 909

Before he could say anything, Charlotte quickly stepped in to smooth things over. "You've misunderstood, Mr. Morris. My father-in-law has no such intention. We all saw Lillian's performance today. She was wonderful, truly exceptional. We're only here to congratulate her on a successful concert. In fact, we even brought a gift."

Audrey nodded eagerly. "Yes, yes! My grandpa picked it out himself before we came. He has absolutely no intention of causing trouble for Camila or Lillian!"

As the mother and daughter spoke, a collective wave of astonishment washed over the group. What did they mean? It sounded as if... they were accepting Camila and Lillian. Had the elder Mr. Williams stopped trying to break them up?

No one quite dared to believe it, given his track record. They all looked to Camila and Dennis for answers.

Camila herself was just as bewildered. It was Dennis who remained calm, gently leading her forward. "Camila, say hello to Grandpa."

Though she didn't understand what was happening, out of politeness and respect for Dennis's family, she managed a quiet, "Hello, sir."

The elder Mr. Williams looked at her. Having moved past her initial anxiety, Camila felt surprisingly composed. She was still a little tense under his scrutiny, but she didn't let it show. Her reaction seemed to please him. She was graceful and poised, neither fawning nor fearful.

For the first time, he was truly looking at her.

He hadn't come here to start a fight. Now that he had decided to accept his grandson's choice, he was making an effort to be pleasant. "Let's change that form of address next time," he said, his tone surprisingly gentle, almost like he was speaking to his own family. "'Sir' is too formal."

Camila looked helplessly at Dennis, who gave her hand a reassuring squeeze.

The elder Mr. Williams continued, "Camila, is it? I admit I held some prejudice against you before. But this grandson of mine wouldn't stop defending you and singing your praises. I had no choice but to take a step back and try to understand. And in doing so, I realized that the rumors about you were just that—rumors. It was my own preconceived notions that led me to misjudge you, and for that, I apologize.

"From now on, I won't interfere in your affairs. You two can live your lives as you see fit. I have only one request: take good care of him and make sure he stays healthy. With your skills, I'm sure that won't be a problem, will it?"

His expression softened even more. "That was very thoughtful of you," he said to Camila.

It was then that the reality of the situation finally sank in for Camila. The elder Mr. Williams had accepted her. She felt a surge of surprise and joy. "It was my pleasure," she replied quickly. "Dennis cares about you a great deal, so your health is very important to me as well."

Her words clearly delighted the old man.

Charlotte seized the moment, taking Melissa's hand. "You must be so proud of raising such a thoughtful daughter, my dear in-law. We've met a few times but never had the chance for a proper chat. We must make time for a meal together soon. I hope you, your husband, and Mr. Morris will do us the honor."

Charlotte had a gentle, scholarly air, much like Melissa, and her warm words were impossible to fault.
