Camila Davis stopped and turned around, puzzled, only to see Cynthia Lee standing there.
A flicker of surprise crossed her face. What was this woman doing here?
And from the looks of her outfit, she was meticulously dressed for an occasion.
Remembering what Cynthia Lee was likely after, Camila instinctively glanced at Dennis Williams.
Before Dennis could say a word, Aaron quickly explained, “Ms. Davis, what happened was Ms. Lee came to the airport to pick up Mr. Williams this afternoon. We already told her to leave, but she followed us here on her own.”
Camila recalled what Charlotte Kelly had told her before and instantly understood. Cynthia must have been rejected at the airport and, unwilling to give up, decided to follow them.
But judging by her stance, it seemed Cynthia was here for her?
Camila didn't back down. She met Cynthia's gaze coolly and asked, “Can I help you, Ms. Lee?”
Cynthia forced herself to ignore the piercingly intimate sight of them together. Holding back her frustration, she said, “Dennis just got back in the country, and I've booked a restaurant to have dinner with him. However, he seems hesitant because of you. So, could I ask you to step aside for a moment? I believe you're aware of the situation between the Williams and Lee families. We have a marriage arrangement that hasn't been fully resolved. Both Grandfather Williams and Charlotte promised to give me a chance. I just want a fair shot. Surely you wouldn't be so tactless as to deny me that?”
She delivered the lines with staggering self-righteousness.
Dennis's face had already darkened, his eyes flashing with impatience and a hint of menace. He had been polite and accommodating out of respect for the elder Mr. Williams, not to give her an opportunity to get presumptuous. It seemed his last bit of mercy was wasted.
Just as Dennis was about to speak, Camila stopped him with a look, signaling him to stay calm.
Then, she turned her placid gaze back to Cynthia and said with a sarcastic curl of her lips, “That’s a funny thing to say, Ms. Lee. If you want to invite my boyfriend to dinner, you should ask him directly. If he agrees, I certainly won't interfere. But for you to come here and order me to step aside… doesn't that seem a bit off?”
It was truly laughable. This wasn't her first encounter with Cynthia Lee. She had initially thought the woman was merely proud, but surely a daughter from a prominent family would possess some basic common sense. Now, it seemed she had been mistaken. Cynthia wasn't just proud; she was arrogant, condescending, and frankly, a bit dim-witted.
Camila saw no reason to be polite.
Camila looked at Cynthia, completely dumbfounded. “Are you sure that if I refuse his invitation, his time will automatically belong to you?”
Cynthia bit her lip, knowing it was unlikely, but she pressed on stubbornly. “That’s none of your business! All you have to do is leave!”
Camila found it amusing rather than irritating. She nodded. “Alright, then. I’ll give you that chance. I’ll stand right here and watch. Go on, try inviting him. Let’s see if Dennis agrees. As long as he says yes, I’ll leave immediately and won't disturb you.”
Hearing this, Cynthia immediately turned a pitiful, doe-eyed gaze on Dennis. “Dennis…”
Dennis had no intention of wasting another second on her; she had already delayed him long enough today. Without even glancing in her direction, he fixed his gentle, loving eyes on Camila and said softly, “Lillian said she missed me. Should we just go home and eat?”
The blatant disregard was like a knife to the heart. Cynthia’s eyes turned red. “Dennis!”
Camila shrugged helplessly at her. “You see, Ms. Lee? He doesn't want to go with you. I believe a relationship should be built on mutual affection, not coercion like this. Besides, ordering me around with such an overbearing attitude is useless. Dennis has a mind of his own; even I can't control him. What he wants to do, and what he doesn't, is entirely his decision.”
