“That’s ridiculous!” Jupiter shot up from his chair, slamming his hand on the dining table so hard that the chopsticks rattled.

He glanced between his precious daughter and the guy who clearly wanted to be his son-in-law. Jupiter couldn’t take it anymore—he spun around and stormed out.

The second Jupiter was gone, Milka grabbed Mars by the arm, panic and confusion all over her face, which Mars found weirdly adorable. “Come on, tell me the truth—does Uncle Parker actually like my mom? Don’t lie to me! Fooling my dad is one thing, but don’t even think about lying to me.”

Mars squeezed her hand, looked around, and stood up. “Let’s go outside.”

Still clinging to him, Milka kept pestering as they walked out. “Seriously, what’s up with Uncle Parker? Tell me already.” Back when she and her mom had just moved abroad, Parker had helped them out a ton.

But honestly, Milka never planned on getting a stepdad.

Mars shook his head. “No, it’s not like that at all. You lived with them for years—didn’t you notice? Parker’s actually with your mom’s friend.”

“Huh?” Milka blinked.

Mars gently tugged her back to the car. “Just call your mom tonight and ask. You’ll see.”

Milka was still processing. “Wait, that lady was married, wasn’t she? What happened?”

“You’ve been home how long and still don’t know? She’s been divorced for ages. Forget their drama—let’s worry about our own. Your dad’s so riled up, he probably won’t sleep tonight. Hey, listen—come here, I’ll let you in on a little secret.”

Totally oblivious to the fact they were alone in the car, Milka leaned in, eager to listen.

Mars whispered his advice, and just as he finished, he couldn’t resist and stole a quick kiss on her cheek.
