Chunky poured two glasses of warm water. Alyna frowned. "Leo asked for warm water."

Chunky shot the overly talkative Alyna a look. "You really want to scald his actual grandfather?"

With that, Chunky carried the glasses into Leo's office.

"Your dad said the conditions here were awful and that you were suffering," Hansen was saying. "I came to check on you, but you don't even look like you've lost any weight."

"It's winter, I'm wearing thick clothes," Leo countered. "I actually have lost weight. I'm practically skin and bones."

"Then why hasn't your face lost any weight? Aside from looking older, your face is as round as ever."

"I learned it from you. Aside from wrinkles, your face is all meat too."

Hansen was speechless.

Walking in on the tail end of the exchange, Chunky was mildly stunned. Was this really how a grandfather and grandson greeted each other? It certainly didn't sound like it. Weren't grandparents supposed to hug you and fret over how thin you looked? Why were they roasting each other?

"Leo, did Anya make you any good food?" Hansen asked.

Leo nodded. "She did, but I'm absolutely not letting you have any."

Chunky didn't know what to say.

Hansen scoffed. "Fine, you moved out, but why did you have to drag Anya out with you?"

"She's my girlfriend," Leo replied. "If I didn't bring her with me, what were we supposed to do? Live apart?"

"The way you handled that was totally uncalled for."

"It's not the first uncalled-for thing I've done."

The two of them went back and forth, trading jabs like they were brainstorming insults.

Hansen ended up staying for lunch. "Your company's food is actually pretty decent, Leo."

"Grandpa, I'm running a startup, I'm not starving in the streets."

Mid-meal, Hansen's phone rang. "Hey there, my perfect little grandson. What's up?"
