The police officer pointed at the man being loaded into the ambulance. "You call that self-defense? That's severe excessive force."
Katie remained unfazed. "When people are terrified, their stress response triggers extreme self-preservation. It's completely understandable."
"You're telling me she was terrified?" The officer pointed at the billionaire's precious wife. "Even we know she gets excited when she sees a fight."
Katie looked the officer in the eye. "We speak with evidence here. Your statement is mere conjecture and holds no legal weight. If you'd like to debate this with me right now, I'm more than happy to oblige."
Realizing they couldn't win an argument against a lawyer, the officers quietly escorted the injured man to the hospital.
They had initially suggested Mia get checked out as well, but Easton figured Lester wasn't capable of actually hurting her.
Anya sat next to Mia. "I'm so sorry. I dragged you into this." She wasn't scared, just worried that Mia would get lectured by Andre when she got home.
"Silly girl, what are you apologizing for?" Mia reassured her. "Even if I were just a bystander, I would have stepped in. Let alone for someone we know."
Despite her brave words, Mia was starting to panic internally.
She had barely warmed her seat when her best friend called. "Hey, Mia! Did you fight your way into the police station again?" Molly's voice was practically bubbling with excitement.
"How did you know?" Mia asked, having just sat down.
"Please, you're talking to me. The precinct is my territory. The security guard treats me like his own niece, and you're my best friend. The second you walked through those doors, three different people texted me."
