Saphron scrambled to his feet at once. He made himself as small as possible and stood to the side, shaking quietly.
Sylvara sat down across from Blake and took a calm sip of water, as if nothing had happened.
Blake turned to the court officials and said evenly, “Duke Quill, as an imperial noble, you ignored Imperial Law. You knew the law and still broke it. You copied and stole another person’s work, claimed it as your own, and made huge illegal profits from it. That is unacceptable.
“I’ve already sent the evidence to the Supreme Court. You’ve all seen it,” she continued. “The original owner of the work is right here. I ask the court to calculate his illegal profits from the past two months and compensate the victim on the spot for both financial loss and emotional harm.”
On the spot?
Sylvara froze.
So Imperial Law didn’t need long procedures?
With solid evidence, the ruling could be made immediately?
What kind of law was this?
Even before the apocalypse, no developing country had laws this direct, where someone powerful could be ordered to pay compensation right away.
“Yes, General Kenobia,” the prosecutor replied.
He pulled up a holographic screen and announced in a formal tone, “Third-Rank Duke, Winson Quill. Under your name, Quill House has violated the exclusive patent rights of Ms. Feywin.
“You unlawfully claimed Ms. Feywin’s patented work as your own. The evidence is conclusive. After preliminary court review, the ruling is as follows. You are required to compensate Ms. Feywin for her financial losses. The amount equals five months of Quill House’s recent gross revenue. Payment is to be made immediately.”
Five months! His profit from just over one month ago had already been 500 million dollars.
Five months of profit…
Would that be one billion? Or even 1.5 billion?

Jackpot! I’m rich!
Sylvara silently raised her thumb toward Blake.
Blake glanced at her.
Hmph! This is nothing.
Look at her, acting like she’d never seen money before.
“Duke Quill, do you have any objections?” the prosecutor asked. When Winson didn’t respond, the prosecutor reminded him, “If you have objections, you may file an appeal after making the payment.”
“N-no objections,” Winson said weakly. Every part of him ached, especially his heart. Five months of Quill House’s revenue. Before taxes, that totaled a full 1.3 billion.
Especially in the past month, when he had perfectly copied the viral dishes. That alone had brought in 500 million in a single month, the highest revenue in Quill House’s history.
Blake kicked Sylvara lightly under the table. “Give them your account number,” she said. “Time to collect your money.”
Pain shot through Sylvara’s foot. That snapped her out of watching Blake openly and very properly scam money out of someone. She held out her hand.
Winson was hurting. His hands shook. His heart bled even more than his body. Gritting his teeth, he pulled out his optical computer, linked it to Sylvara’s account, and transferred five months of business revenue to her. On top of that, he had to pay the Imperial Bank’s transfer fees.
The money arrived instantly.
Sylvara’s optical computer was set to silent. She couldn’t hear the Imperial Bank’s voice notice. But the amount was huge. After the voice notice, the bank sent a message asking her to confirm the transfer.
Sylvara froze.
Please forgive her. Before the end of old Earth, she had been very poor.
After coming to the Interstellar Era, aside from the shared account she had with her bargain- bin husband, an account filled with more zeros than she could count, she had never personally seen this much money before.
The prosecutor beside her asked, “Ms. Feywin, has the payment arrived?”

Sylvara closed her slightly open mouth. “Give me a moment,” she said seriously. “I need to
count the zeros.”
At the same time, far away on Kolar planet, the same confirmation message appeared on Agares’s optical computer.
He stared at it. His sharp brows slowly drew together.
The money his wife used for military academy tuition fees came from their shared account. Even with live streams and tips from Starnet users, there was no way it could reach 1.5 billion stellar coins.
So, where did this money come from?
Pocket money from Relos?
Money from Blair?
No. Relos didn’t have that much.
And Blair turned all money from robbing the bandits over to the treasury. He didn’t have it either.
Agares fell silent for a moment. Then he lifted his hand and turned back on the transaction voice reports he had muted earlier. He opened the detailed source list.
The records showed the largest amount was the 1.5 billion Stellar coins that had just arrived.
Source note: Quill House infringement compensation.
