“She’s yours now. Have fun, handsome.” As soon as Blak finished speaking, she moved fast. She pulled a red smoke pellet from her spatial button and tossed it into the air.
The pellet hit the air and exploded with a sharp bang.
In an instant, red smoke filled Endbloom House.
The whole place went wild. Shouts, laughter, and chaos ose together, like a wave crashing all at once.
Moments later, the red smoke slowly cleared.
Inside Endbloom House, men and women-humans an beastfolk alike-were tangled together. Some were hugging. Some were far past the line of decency, too busy to care about anything else.
Sylvara stared, stunned. Blake had used the smoke as cover and disappeared. Just like that—gone.
Holy shit!
That really was her real daddy. No doubt about it.
“C-”
Auren called softly. Agares raised a hand to stop him. His sharp gaze locked onto Sylvara, who was still sitting on the couch. “Miss,” he said coldly, “what is the name of the man who was with you?”
So handsome. So commanding.
And way too cold.
Sylvara shivered and answered quickly, a weak lie slipping off her tongue. “He told me his name is Idiotus.”
“Idiotus?” Auren repeated. “Idiot? What a strange name.”
Agares lowered his eyes and tapped on his optical computer. A few minutes passed. Then he looked up again, his gaze colder than before. “You’re lying. That’s a fake name.”
Sylvara swallowed hard. She forced her voice lower, changing her tone, acting scared and innocent. “I’m not lying. That’s what he told me.
“I was born on a waste planet. I’m just an ordinary person. No mental energy, weak physical power. I have elders above me and kids below me. I’m the only one making money. He gave me a lot of money. He said as long as I stayed with him, I wouldn’t have to pay it back.
“He said if I left, he’d sell me. He said merfolk love to eat people, and beastkin like to torture humans.”
Agares thought for a moment. Then he turned to Auren. “Take off your coat. Give it to her.”
Auren was left speechless.
Confused but obedient, Auren took off his coat and handed it to the woman covering her legs on the couch.
It wasn’t her bargain-bin husband’s coat.

Sylvara refused firmly. She stood up and waved her hans vigorously. “No, no, I’m fine. Really. Thank you, thank you. I’ll go find Idiotus now.”
“I’ll take you,” Agares said, reaching out to stop her. “You’re staying next door to me. And he happens to be getting arrested.”
So much for slipping away. Sylvara said nothing.
There was no way for her to escape.
Apparently, just spending money at Endbloom House wasn’t enough.
Auren bought two bottles of wine. The bill came to 100,000.
The three of them walked toward the elevator together.
That male attendant, the one called Candi, tried to flirt gain. When he saw that the woman he had just looked down on was now walking with two powerful men, his eyes nearly popped out of his head.
Standing behind her bargain-bin husband, Sylvara took advantage of the fact that he didn’t have eyes on the back of his head. She stuck out her tongue at Candi, made a silly face, and mocked him on purpose.
Candi stomped his foot in anger. “You-”
Agares heard the noise and turned his head.
Sylvara changed expressions fast. She twisted her finger together and instantly turned into a pure, innocent girl. “I… I what?” she asked softly.
Professional instinct kicked in. Candi forced a smile at once. “Honored guest, you’re too beautiful. I couldn’t help but compliment you.”
Sylvara lowered her head shyly. “Thank you. You’re handsome too.”
Candi nearly spat blood on the spot. Luckily, the elevator doors closed in time, saving him from complete emotional collapse.
They went back upstairs.
Room 8809.
Auren held a gun in one hand and knocked on the door with the other.
Click! The door opened from inside.
Sylvara stood on tiptoe and peeked in. A hotel staff member stood there, cleaning tools in hand. “Honored guests, who are you looking for?” the staff member asked politely.
Auren pressed the hand holding the gun against his waist and asked cautiously, “Where is the guest who stayed in this room?”
“Oh, that guest?” the staff member replied. “He already checked out. Are you looking for him?”
That bastard moved fast.

Sylvara couldn’t help but admire it.
Auren glanced at his commander and said politely, “No problem. Sorry to bother you.”

“No trouble at all,” the staff member said cheerfully. “I’ll get back to work then.” With a loud bang, the door closed.
Auren looked at his commander.
That scruffy, rough-looking man, reeking of money and trouble, had slipped away fast.
Sylvara looked at her bargain-bin husband, who was radiating cold air. She sighed inside. Can’t flirt. Can’t flirt at all. Better leave while I still can.
She spoke weakly, “He’s not here. Since he’s gone, I won trouble you anymore. I’ll just go to the space station and buy a ticket myself.”
Agares cut her off before she could finish. His tone left no room for argument. “He is suspected of threatening you and illegal lending. You are both a victim and a witness. I’ve already called the police. Someone will arrive soon to take you to the station. Before they get here, you are not allowed to go anywhere.”
