“Nope, nope!” Sylvara slumped into the aircraft seat and said disdainfully, “Daddy, don’t try that provocation trick on me. Don’t tell me you didn’t see it-he hit me, dragged me, and threw me around just to strip my
cover. I’m mad.”
Blake chuckled. “A smack means you’re close, a scold means you care. No smack, no scold-no love.”
Sylvara shot him a sharp, sideways glare.
Sweetheart is angry
What to do?
Soothe her!
Poke her right in the heart!
What else can you do?
Blake wiped the grin away, nudged her with his elbow, and said slyly, “Sylvie, you dare say you’re angry because he hit you, dragged you, threw you around, and stripped your cover? Not because you’re scared you’ll really get exposed and end up dead on his bed?”
Sylvara’s eyes widened. “You’re no fun. You see through me and still say it out loud? Say one more word, and I’ll go tattling to His Majesty. And hey, the palace kitchen’s packed with big, golden durians. I stashed a few just for me.”
Her bargain-bin husband radiated an oppressive pressure.
Enough to make anyone’s legs go weak.
And today, she realized something clearly: the saying “there are no good people in the royal family except Agares” was completely wrong.
By pure probability, the student surpasses the master; new blood replaces old, and yesterday’s champions don’t stay on top forever.
Blake-the thousand-year-old fox-and His Majesty, who could keep that fox firmly in check.
Any child trained by those two together-no matter how innocent they looked-would be black to the bone.
She wanted a handsome, long-legged, rich, powerful backer with zero fertility—not to push too far and end up pinned to a bed by Agares.
“Alright, alright, I’ll stop.” Blake abruptly changed tack. “But this face of yours is useless now. Let’s switch to something pure and harmless-a cute little bunny style. I guarantee Agares won’t be able to crack it. How
about that?”
“Yeah, right.” Sylvara scoffed. “That slutty glamorous face still got stripped clean. You think a sweet bunny face will escape him? You trained him yourself-don’t you know what kind of monster you raised?”
Blake thought for a moment. “Fair point. Then, you decide-whatever face you want, Daddy will get it for you,”
Sylvara suddenly sat upright, eyes blazing. “Use my real face. I’m confronting him head-on. I refuse to

“Head-on?” Blake pressed a hand to her forehead. “Sweetheart, no fever-did he knock you senseless?”
Sylvara slapped his hand away. “You’re the one who got hit stupid. Your whole family did.”
Blake grinned broadly. “My whole family? Doesn’t that include you, sweetheart?”
Sylvara shut up when she heard that.
Oh. That was careless.
She hadn’t slept with her bargain-bin husband.
But status-wise, marrying into the royal family made her one of them-insulting him meant insulting
herself.
Exactly.
She really was an idiot.
“Tell me, with a face like that, he still dug out clues pointing to you being his registered wife. What does that tell you?” Blake asked, rubbing the back of her hand, watching her expression shift subtly. “He already suspects you. Not the face you’re wearing now-he suspects you’re parading around him as Ms. Feywin.”
Sylvara paused, then extended her optical-computer hand. “Straight men lack emotional intelligence. All they have is logic and deduction.
“As long as I don’t admit anything, and with the new identity you gave me—even if he suspects…”
“The identity I gave you was Sylvara Kenobia. Your original one in the Mordrels was Sylvara Mordrel. You changed it to Sylvara, but it didn’t pass the registry because I blocked it,” Blake cut in. “So, on his device, his wife is listed as Sylvara Mordrel-not Sylvara.”
