Sylvara said nothing to that.
Lesson learned.
Knowledge really did change fate.

Blake memorized enough imperial law to become one of the Supreme Court’s Chief Prosecutor, and rewrote her destiny.
Forget it.
She wasn’t built for memorizing statutes or taking judicial exams,
The two of them headed to another hotel near the auction venue.
They disembarked early, still a fair distance from the hotel.
Blake shed the floral shirt, sunglasses, yellowed grin, and scruffy beard-then, in a blink, turned into a middle-aged gentleman with streaked hair, a vest suit, and smile lines at the eyes.
She transformed seamlessly-from a street rogue into a refined older gentleman, without a trace of disguise.
Sylvara changed into long pants, tied her hair into a ponytail, restored her real face, and slipped on a hoodie with rabbit ears-looping her arm through his as they strolled casually into the hotel.
Agares sat on the hotel bed, elbows braced on his knees fingers rubbing together as he stared calmly-eyes deep as still water—at the projection from his optical computer.
Three images hovered before him: a back view in a shirt and thigh-length shorts; a photo taken on a bed showing bruising on the top of a foot; and a transfer record with notes attached.
Early the next morning, before dawn broke.
The optical computer under Sylvara’s pillow began to vibrate.
Jolted awake, she fumbled for it-and froze. It was her bargain-bin husband calling. Video call.
Her mind raced. She ruffled her hair, flopped onto the bed face down, cheek pressed to the pillow as her long hair spilled messily over her face like a curtain.
Once she was sure her face was completely hidden-only messy hair and bunny pajamas visible—she answered.
Agares had expected her to ignore the call-or switch to audio. Instead, he was met with a screen full of tangled, fluffy hair.
“Honey…” Her voice came out soft and drowsy through the device. “Why are you calling so early?”
Agares-eyes faintly bloodshot from a sleepless night-xed on the screen. “It’s not early, Military academy morning training starts at 5:30 a.m. You should be up.”
Morning training?

Sylvara replied sweetly, confusion laced into her tone.raining? I’m still in the palace. I don’t need to attend morning drills.”
Staring at the sliver of wall visible on screen, Agares’s voice turned hoarse. “That’s not my palace. That’s not my bed. Which palace are you in?”
“General Kenobia’s palace,” Sylvara said easily, selling Blake out without hesitation. “I wasn’t feeling well yesterday. He let me rest there. I didn’t go back later, so he moved a bed into another room for me.
“Is that wrong, honey? Should I not have stayed in General Kenobia’s palace?”
Her soft voice wavered with a carefully measured hint of panic. The device shook-and the video slammed into white bedsheets.
Agares’s fingers curled slowly into a fist. He heard feet hit the floor-then her hurried footsteps rushing to the door and yanking it open.
