Sylvara snorted and shot him a look full of disdain. “You’ve got a hard life? Please. You didn’t spend a single stellar coin on me, you didn’t raise me for a single day, and you still got a whole grown daughter for free- and you’ve got me incubating your egg. Where else are you going to find a daughter this amazing? Be grateful.”

Blake couldn’t refute that.

Shameless logic. No rebuttal available.

Worse, she had a point.

Fine. Considering she really hadn’t paid anything…

She could be black-hearted. She could stab him with words. Blake would live.

Blake lowered her hand and stared ahead at Agares, who was closing in step by step. “Sweetheart … do you think he’ll stop you?”

Sylvara clenched her free hand into a fist and made a little pow gesture. “If he dares block me, then until he identifies himself, I’m treating him like some random creep-and I’m throwing hands first.”

Blake was silent.

Okay.

That was exactly why she was his sweetheart-

Because she never followed anyone’s script.

As Agares drew nearer, Sylvara deliberately started bouncing as she walked-like a carefree kid trailing behind her daddy to beg for candy.

Seeing her hop around, Blake immediately leaned into the role, too-an indulgent, doting “dad,” reminding her to watch her step like it was the most natural thing in the world.

Right as Agares was about to pass them, Sylvara suddenly called out, loud and bright, “Daddy, I’m hungry! What’s good to eat here?”

Blake answered in a low, pampering voice, “Oh? My little sweetheart’s hungry? Endbloom Restaurant has decent natural food. I will take you there.”

“Thanks, Daddy.” Sylvara smiled sweetly, brushed past her bargain-bin husband-without even meeting his

eyes once.

Agares acted like he didn’t know her at all. He walked straight past with his subordinate, his shoulder brushing hers as if she were nothing more than a stranger in the crowd.

“Mr. Vaelor,” Auren asked quietly after a few steps, confused. “Weren’t we supposed to go over and greet Ms. Sylvie?”

Agares kept his eyes on the massive glass wall at the appraisal wing. “I’m waiting for her to turn around and

look at me.”

Auren didn’t know what to say.

They were disguised.

How was Ms. Sylvie supposed to recognize them through that?

And turn back?

In what universe?

Sylvara didn’t slow down. She tightened her grip on Blake’s arm. “Daddy, that little act just now-he was pretending not to know me on purpose, wasn’t he?”

Blake curled his lips and pulled out a pair of sunglasses from his spatial button. He lifted them like a mirror, angling the reflection toward Agares’s back. “You’re right. He’s pretending. He’s waiting for you to turn your head.”

Sylvara glanced at the sunglasses-

And internally cursed.

The appraisal wing’s glass was reflective.

If Agares walked slowly and watched the glass, he could tell exactly whether she turned around to sneak a look.

Sneaky bastard.

Sneaky as hell.

“Which means he’s only suspicious-he doesn’t have real proof.” Sylvara grinned. “Right, Daddy?”

Blake slid the sunglasses onto her face, led her to their aircraft, and opened the passenger door. “Yes—he suspects. But be careful. With his personality, unless that suspicion is completely extinguished, he won’t let even a single thread slip by.”

Sylvara climbed in and shut the door. Through the window, she stared out openly-bold as daylight.

Blake circled around, slid into the driver’s seat, and powered the aircraft up.

Watching her bargain-bin husband fade into the distance, Sylvara finally looked away and turned to Blake. “So, why do you think he came here?”

Blake’s hand paused on the controls. “Maybe for tonight’s midnight session. Non-mutated seeds dug up from the mother world-ancient Earth.”

Sylvara frowned. “Why wouldn’t it be for that saber?”

Blake blinked. “Why would you think that?”

“Because it makes sense-he uses a saber.” Sylvara honestly didn’t understand why Blake was asking. A saber user sees a better saber … wanting it was just human nature.
