“Please don’t be angry! This isn’t a courtship ritual, it’s just fur-brushing! A normal fur-brushing!”
Blake, once again promoted to the rank of a bargain-bir dad, was left speechless.
What was happening lately?
Was she radiating some kind of overwhelming paternal aura?
Not only did people keep calling her “Daddy”, but now even beastkin did the same.
If she ever went to war with the beastkin, would he just have to stand there, look around at a sea of self- proclaimed children, and call it a day?
“Congratulations, Daddy, on acquiring a son without spending a single coin,” Sylvara added cheerfully, very much enjoying the chaos. “Dougie, once you call someone ‘Dad’, it’s for life. You can’t go back on your word.”
Douglas immediately snapped to attention and held Blake’s hand earnestly. “Sylvie’s dad is my dad! Even if Daddy grows old, becomes bedridden, or disabled in the future, I will care for him just as Sylvie would!”
Blake, the bargain-bin dad who was apparently destined for bedridden disability, started contemplating her life decisions.
Gee, thanks.
What a heartfelt curse.
“In that case, the three of us should tour the inside of Endbloom House together. Let’s go, quickly.” Sylvara instantly turned her back on the approaching Agares, linking one arm with her bargain-bin dad and the other with the panda, dragging them both away at a brisk pace.
Agares reached the spot where they’d been moments earlier and stopped.
After a long moment, Auren was about to ask his commander when they would leave when Phil approached, carrying an ornate case. “Esteemed guest,” Phil said respectfully, “this contains the battle robe of Hesperia’s late War Goddess, along with the seeds you acquired. As for The Green Whisper, it was taken by your junior.”
Agares took the pouch of seeds and slipped it into his spatial button. He then accepted the case containing the robe. “Understood. Thank you. Goodbye.”
Phil hurriedly replied, “You’re most welcome. Have a good day.”
With that, Agares turned and strode away,
Auren watched the case in his commander’s hand. On the tall, imposing, and upright figure of the commander, the case looked peculiarly dainty and out of place.
He was puzzled. The commander had a spatial button, so why not store the case inside instead of carrying it?
“Commander Vaelor, let me carry that for you!” Auren hurried to catch up, reaching out. “My spatial button has space. It can fit.”
In a fluid motion, Agares switched the case to his other and, deftly avoiding Auren’s outstretched one. The

corner of his mouth lifted slowly. “If I give it to you to store in a spatial button, how am I supposed to use it as bait?”
“Bait?” Auren’s confusion deepened. “Commander Vael, that case contains the War Goddess’s battle robe. You plan to use it for fishing?”
How does one fish with a battle robe?
And where would one go fishing at this hour?
Was the War Goddess’s lingering aura so potent on the garment that merely floating it on water would attract fish?
Agares walked with the wind, his eyes dark and inscrutable. “Indeed. A particularly large fish. One that’s planning to build a pond.”
Auren tilted his head.
A fish that builds ponds?
Since when do fish build ponds?
Ah!
The commander must be after a merfolk-only mermaids build ponds!
Wait a minute.
The commander was already legally married. He has a wife. Why would he go fishing for merfolks?
Unless… The commander planning to commit adultery?
More than an hour later, the interior of Endbloom House had been thoroughly toured.
Sylvara squatted on the floor, drawing circles absently, staring longingly at Blake and Douglas in the distance.
That bastard Blake, worried her fur-fixation would flare up and she’d forget herself, had forbidden her from joining his conversation with Douglas.
Ten minutes later, Blake returned alone.
Sylvara quickly stood, brushing non-existent dust from her backside. “Daddy, why didn’t the little panda come with you?”
Blake stopped before her, turned, and waved back at Douglas, who was waving at them in the distance. She then tugged Sylvara along. “Douglas is one of the managers here, part of the beastkin delegation sent to oversee Endbloom House. If he leaves with us, who’s going to earn the money? Could you afford to keep him?”
