What an honor to examine the goddess-how could he even think about checking anything else?
Auren nodded. “Don’t worry, I’ll only examine your eye
With that assurance, Sylvara lay down.
Auren put on gloves and examined her eyes. After a moment, he cursed. “Bluebeard is truly despicable and shameless. He wanted to blind you-he sprayed capsaicin in your eyes.”
Blake thought, didn’t my bargain-bin daughter do this to herself?
Sylvara thought, what does this have to do with Bluebeard? he did this to herself.
“Um, capsaicin?” Sylvara hesitated, feeling like she should explain. “Actually…”
Furious that his goddess had suffered like this, Auren cu off her explanation. “Yes, Bluebeard used high- concentration capsaicin on you. The eyes are the most vulnerable part of the human body. He used capsaicin to damage your corneal epithelium, which can cause swelling, tearing, light sensitivity, blurred vision, and even blindness.
“Your earlier rinse wasn’t thorough enough. I need to flush your conjunctival sac with saline solution now to prevent further tearing, swelling, and blindness!”
Sylvara thought, worthy of being my bargain-bin husband’s subordinate. Even their misunderstandings align perfectly. They don’t let anyone else get a word in.
Blake held back her laughter and urged Auren dramatically. “Use the best saline solution for the flush. We absolutely must save her eyes.”
Auren responded with full vigor. “Yes, General Kenobia!
Sylvara nearly went deaf from the shouting.
Then came the eye
wash.
And she had to admit, after the wash, her eyes felt much better.
They weren’t as gritty or swollen, and they didn’t burn as much as before.
Sylvara sat up, seeing her bargain-bin daddy much mo clearly now. She asked Auren, “Chief Auren, do you know Red Brows?”
Blake thought, what’s this heartless ingrate up to? Wasn’t she supposed to go seduce that troublemaker? Why is she asking about Red Brows now?
Auren paused while packing up his things. “Red Brows? The Red Brows who’s number one on the interstellar bounty list?”
Sylvara shot Blake a pointed glance. “That’s the one. What do you know about him?”
Auren stuffed his packed supplies into his spatial button “I’ve heard of him. He’s number one on the interstellar bounty list and has held that position for over a decade. No one has broken his record yet, and no one has caught him.”

Sylvara’s eyebrows shot up. “That impressive? Over a decade?”

So Red Brows had been on the interstellar bounty list for over a decade, which meant Blake disguised herself as a bandit when she went hunting bandits, playing both sides to make money for Relos.
She was truly formidable. Absolutely outstanding!
So many alternate identities-each one more impressive than the last. She couldn’t even keep up with exposing them all.
Auren nodded vigorously. “Exactly. No one knows when he came from. All anyone knows is that he owns an advanced spaceship.
“The weapons on his ship came from the beastkin, the Merfolk, and the Fourth Civilization. He was unstoppable in the interstellar lanes. If it weren’t for his habit of backstabbing other bandits, he would’ve been worshipped by them.”
Sylvara silently gave the scowling Blake a thumbs-up before asking Auren, “Do you have his photo?”
“I do. Let me pull it up for you.” Auren opened his device and sat down next to Sylvara. “He’s been keeping a low profile these past few years. On our Troya Empire’s Starnet, there’s only his bounty photo, but on the external Starnet, there are more photos of him. Here’s his picture.”
