As soon as the two of them left, Agares’s dark eyes sharpened like an eagle’s as he condensed a white orb of light in his palm and hurled it at Bluebeard lying on the ground.
“So your eyes are burning from pepper, not because you cried, not because you were upset, and not because someone hit you?” Blake leaned against the bathroom doorframe in the Roseblade Legion patrol warship’s cabin, asking in disbelief as she watched Sylvara bend over to rinse her eyes.
Sylvara’s face was dripping with water as she glanced at Blake with one bloodshot eye. “What did you think I was crying for? Let me tell you, I worked my ass off using my soft skills to infiltrate the 20-billion guy’s inner circle to harvest their spatial buttons, and then my husband showed up.
“And then he pulled me into his arms and told me not to cry. Was I crying because I was sad? My tears wouldn’t stop because of the burning, okay? Because my heart ached for my money, okay?”
Blake suddenly straightened against the doorframe as her eyes behind her glasses gleamed with excitement. “You’re saying he pulled you into his arms and comforted you?”
That troublemaker finally learned something?
He finally figured it out.
He knows how to comfort his wife now?
Should I report this to Relos?
Break out some good booze to celebrate?
“Yeah!” Sylvara rinsed her eyes one more time, grabbed a towel, and walked out while wiping her face. “Daddy, do you think my cover’s blown?”
A sharp glint flashed behind Blake’s glasses. “You’re asking me? Who am I supposed to ask? Your husband is so dense he makes my blood boil. I want to strangle him
“But if you want to know whether your cover’s blown, seduce him. Go all the way. If he pushes you away, your cover’s safe. If he doesn’t push you away, then you’ve been exposed all along.”
Sylvara tossed the towel aside, her hair still half-wet. “Bastard, are you going to die if you don’t stir up trouble for one day? Go all the way? This is someone else’s turf. Have some shame!”
Blake rubbed her hands together. “So you’re saying if it wasn’t someone else’s turf, you’d go for it?”
Sylvara froze. “That’s not what I meant. I’m just thinking that my husband is so dense, and I haven’t shown any signs of slipping up, so he probably can’t figure anything out, right?”
Blake gave her a vague answer. “Well, different people see things differently. I still suggest you test him.”
Sylvara pushed her aside. “Stop giving me terrible advice. I’m not falling for your tricks, you bastard. You just want to watch my husband work me to death in be
Blake said with fake reproach, “Sweetheart, I don’t appreciate you talking like that. You call me Daddy, so of course I want you to be happy!”

Sylvara walked past her toward the door. “Fine, I’ll listen to you right now and go test him. If my cover’s blown and he gets mad, I’ll tell him this was your idea for spicing things up, that you told me to do it!”
Blake’s body twisted to look at her, her eyes gleaming with the eagerness to eavesdrop even through her glasses. “Really? Should I call him over for you right now?”
Her enthusiasm made Sylvara suspicious. “When someone’s this eager to help, they’re up to no good. Spill it. What are you scheming?”
Blake spread her hands, wearing her middle-aged man disguise with an innocent expression. “What schemes could a good father possibly have? I just want my daughter to be happy and my star pupil to give up his bachelor life for good. What other bad intentions could I have?”
She sounded more convincing than a gospel preacher.
Anyone who didn’t know her would definitely fall for this con artist’s act.
Seeing that Sylvara wasn’t moving, Blake automatically interpreted this as her being tempted by her suggestion. She started moving toward the door. “I’ll go get him right now. Don’t worry, before you think your cover’s blown, I’ll do everything I can to help you keep it under wraps.”
Knock, knock, knock!
Before Blake could finish speaking, three knocks sounded at the door.
Blake froze. “Sweetheart, your husband’s here!”
Sylvara tensed up. “He dealt with the bandits that fast?”
Blake’s lips curved up as she pressed her hand against the door, saying smugly, “Of course. Just look at whose student he…”
The door opened, and her words cut off abruptly.
Standing at the door was Auren. Blake smoothly changed course. “His Highness Agares cares about you. He even called over his chief healer.”
Sylvara rolled her eyes at her and said to Auren, “Chief Dawn, I’m fine. No need to check.”
