Chapter 109
BEATRICE
Beatrice paced the room, her mind chugging along like a train.
She had no idea how long she’d been under the effects of the mesmer, A few hours? A day? Two? She was still in the city, which was important, but the fact Riaghaire – or Claire – hadn’t shown up to break her out was worriesome. Not that she wanted the darasel in distress heroic rescue scenario to happen. Beatrice would rather be able to take care of herself, to be the catalyst of her own escape. Like last time. She’d freed Riaghaire, which allowed her to get the fuck out of there. Somehow she doubted there would be another vampire locked in the dungeon warting to be rescued by anyone.
If she could just get to Kaleidoscope. The wolves couldn’t enter and, therefore, it was the perfect place to demand sanctuary. The only problem with this scenario was how she would get there in the first place. A small, super tiny, little problem.
There was a knock at the door, causing Beatrice to stop pacing as she glanced over at the fist sized hole by the doorframe. Why not just say something instead of knocking? Wolves were really fucking weird. “What?,” she called out, sounding as exasperated as she felt.
The door opened to reveal a woman. She was tall and slim, with skin as dark as Donovan’s. Her nose also mirrored his, which meant this was most likely his daughter. Or sister? Some female relation to the city’s Alpha.
“Hello,” the woman greeted her with a bright smile. God, she was beautiful, Beatrice thought as the stranger entered the room and closed the door. Why bother closing it though – it wouldn’t latch.
Whatever.
“I’m Avery Mchezaji, Alpha Donovan’s daughter,” the woman spoke after taking a moment to glance around the room.
Beatrice said nothing, knowing everyone already knew her name. Instead, she looked the Alpha’s daughter up and down.
Avery had a shaved head and wore it well – or wore the absence of hair we? Beatrice would never be able to pull that off without looking like a cancer patient but this she-wolf made it stylish. She looked like a damn model. It wasn’t fair. Especially with those high cheek bones and wide eyes.
So not fair.
‘I was told you were… an interesting woman.”
Beatrice rolled her eyes as she turned and walked to the bed where she took a seat. “So everyone keeps telling me. What do voy atte
“Just to talk.”
“Well, we’ve now talked so, unless you’re here to say Lan leave, you can fuck off like the rest of them.”
A light laugh came from the she wolf as she ventured closer, hands clasped behind her back “You really aren’t attard of us wolves, are you.” It wasn’ question but Beatrice felt compelled to respond all the same
“On the contrary, my dear Watson,” she began, not knowing why she chose to call this woman Watson but decided to just go with it. “I am very scared of wolves. Every single one I’ve had the pleasure of meeting have proven to not understand the meaning of the word no and, as a woman, that is very terrifying.”
Avery shook her head, sighing. “Ah, yeah, I heard about your conversation with my father. He’s.
a bit pigheaded”

A bit? That’s an understatement.”
A grin spread over the she-wolf’s face. “He came home in a fit, ranting about you for a while. Complained that you were making things up to manipulate him into helping. When asked what he said you’d told him one in four human women were victims of rape and that wolves were probably no different He didn’t like when I agreed with you.
