Chapter 146
BEATRICE
Hendricks stared at Beatrice for a long time before finally relenting. “Alright,” he sighed. “But I can’t let you out or anything like that”
Beatrice rolled her eyes. “No shit. I know you’d never do something as nice as that. Please.” In truth, she half hoped he might but whatever. “I have two things I want to know. First is why the hell did you shove me in here the first time? You can tell me you thought it would make me want to be with you”
He grimaced. “I wasn’t here when they brought you in. You’d been… a bit excessive in your attempts to escape and they thought it’d be best to keep you some place where you wouldn’t be able to cause problems.”
“So it wasn’t your decision to put me here?”
There was a pause, then he shrugged. “I told them if locking you up stopped you from getting away then they had to do what they had to do.”
Wow. Just wow. What a dumbass reason.
Except, it was because of this that Beatrice had met Riaghaire, so she couldn’t bring herself to hate Hendricks even more now that she knew why it’d happened in the first place.
“What’s the other thing you want to know?,” he prodded, looking like he would rather be anywhere but there.
“How do you know Noble Ashcliff,” she replied as she paid close attention to his face.
It was obvious he didn’t understand why she was asking, which was fair, but she wasn’t about to tell him she’d only ever heard him mentioned by name.
“Well… I can’t say I know him,” Hendricks began, a frown beginning to crease his brow. “I’ve never actually met him.”
She stopped herself from telling him just how unhelpful that was. “Then tell me what you do know, or have heard, or whatever.”
“Why do you want to know?”
“Not your problem. You agreed that you’d tell me two things I wanted to know. This is the second, so pay up, Hendricks.”
“…or what?”
”
Oh, was he going to play this game? Beatrice was both surprised and amused that he was fighting back. Looks like she’d hit a nerve at some point and he was finally ready to start putting his foot down.
It was kind of nice.
No. No, Beatrice repeated to herself. Letting the mate bond affect her reasoning at this stage was beyond idiotic.
“Or my last three questions before my execution might lead to you losing your pack,” she smirked. It was a bluff. Cheating on your fated mate was suppose to be a big deal and he’d nearly killed her because of it. There had to be something in there she could leverage to dethrone the fucker. Maybe. If not… What else could she use to her advantage?
Hendricks snorted. “Bullshit.”

Chapter 146-
Lenghing, Beatrice leaned her head back against the wall: “it’s so much more fun when you fight back,” she heard herself saying, earning another confused muk from the Alphass. She didn’t give him a chance to say anything
she didn’t want to hear what he had to say anyway- and continued to speak
