Chapter 153
Donovan could feel his wolf rise to the surface, using his eyes to see what was causing such a strong emotional response. The wolf was curious but not alarmed upon seeing the feline. The wolf recalled the conversation and gave affirmation to what had been said before taking further control. “We owe no loyalty to those who show none in kind.”
Donovan’s wolf passed control back to him but stayed present to see what would happen next.
“Well said,” Gregory purred. “But this means you’re taking up against the rest of your kind. Are you able to accept what will happen because of this? Not just to you but also your pack. It’s not just your life that will change but all of theirs as well.”
“If they won’t stand behind me then they can find another pack,” Donovan grunted. He had to step up as Alpha and wasn’t about to half ass it anymore Things would be different this time. “All wolves know to repay their debts, big and small. If they demand I forget what I owe then what would that make me if I listened? Helping Beatrice endangers none of our kind. She doesn’t want payment in blood, or pain, or sacrifice she wants freedom from someone who refuses to let her go. If her fated mate wasn’t an Alpha there would be no question about forcing a rejection; none should be exempt, no matter their rank.
Gregory’s tailed stopped swishing back and forth, his eyes crescents as his purr slowly subsided. “Seems you’ve made up your mind. Even if we refused to help, I have a feeling that wouldn’t stop you from doing what you must to fix things.”
“Was this all a set up to get me to say that?,” the Alpha demanded, earning an odd chuckle from the feline.
“Hardly. I’m not all knowing; I just do as I’m told, like the rest of us. Now that we’ve gotten past the hard stuff, let’s discuss your plan to get Beatrice away from the Bluemoon wolves.”
Donovan ran a hand over his face, not liking how he’d just been played like a fiddle. Were wampus cats suppose to be this manipulative? “I don’t even know.
I can get onto Bluemoon pack land easily enough, since I’m technically the reason they got their hands on her but, even if I brought my entire pack, we’d be hard pressed to make it out alive, let alone with Beatrice. If… if The Riaghaire was still alive he would tip the balance without needing to involve more than
a top tier wolf or two but…”
“But?”
but… he’s still somewhere in the rubble. All my wolves’ bodies have been found and the remnants of a few dead vampires, but none that could have been
The Riaghaire. Or the Master vampire.”
“Mmhmm… and? There’s more to that ‘but’.”
Donovan gritted his teeth again. “I doubt any of my wolves would willingly work alongside the Bloodsucker, given his… reputation. Ven no different. The thought of standing by his side…” A visible shudder ran through the Alpha.
“I am not that scary,” a voice said from behind Donovan, who whipped around so fast his stool toppled over. His wolf ascended as the tips of his fingers turned to claws, though slower than normal. The wolf wanted to shift more but the bar’s magical protections prevented further physical changes.
“You…! You’re alive,” Donovan’s wolf growled, barring human teeth at the vampire.
“In a sense,” the Riaghaire nodded.
“Riaghaire, Alpha Donovan wants to help you retrieve Beatrice from the Bluemoon pack,” Gregory said, sounding amused. “Are you willing to accept hầy help?”
The vampire stared at Donovan with an inscrutable look. What was he thinking? Was he going to attack? Take revenge for his Beta’s betrayal?

Chapter 153
“Love heard the conversation,” Riaghaire finally admitted after a full minute of tense silence. “And though I would much prefer removing his head from his body, that is not what she would want loathsome though he is. However…” the vampire cocked his head to one side before continuing, “if you turn on us again, I will first destroy your pack, then you. I will make all wolves regret having ever thought they could kill me.”
Donovan swallowed, his wolf still present and in charge. There was a brief exchange between he and his wolf half, as they assessed the vampire and came to the conclusion it was best to side with him moving forward. Even if the pack didn’t agree, they would at least survive. “Understood,” he replied in a rough voice. “I would give you my word on that but you wouldn’t believe it anyway.”
“I would not,” Riaghaire nodded before turning to address the wampus cat. “Is this the reason I was not allowed to leave earlier?”
