Chapter 154
DONOVAN
Donovan couldn’t believe this was his life. Never had he imagined that, one day, he would be driving to Bluemoon pack lands with a vampire, twin fae, & male witch, and whatever the hell Claire was all in the same vehicle:
Uncomfortable didn’t begin to describe it.
Fortunately, the vampire sat in the very back with the witch. The fae twins were in the middle seats while Claire rode shotgun. Out of them all, she was by far the one he was most comfortable with, though that wasn’t really saying much.
They’d left in the early afternoon, which was unexpected. The vampire was coming and, what with the sun being up during the day, Denovan wasn’t quite sure how they were going to manage it. Shoving the bloodsucker in the trunk and covering him with blankets felt like the best choice – they could even crate him! – but nope. Riaghaire had walked out the front door wearing a light jacket, ball cap and sunglasses. He’d stepped into the fucking sunlight without so much as a flinch. Donovan had to pick his jaw up off the floor upon seeing this, only for Marlow to erupt into laughter. “You should see your face,” he’d cackled.
“H-how? The sun…!”
“I am an anomaly,” the wolf executioner had explained. Which wasn’t an actual explanation but, no matter how much the Alpha pressed – and it wasn’t much, as he didn’t want to annoy the thing who took great joy in killing wolves no straight answer was ever given.
–
Now Donovan sat in the driver’s seat, hands gripping the wheel a bit too tightly, as he tried to wrap his head around how he’d gotten himself into this situation.
It was that damn wampus cat. Gregory. For prey, the feline was far too good at manipulation.
“You’ll want to wear this,” Claire informed him, breaking the Alpha free from his thoughts as she held out a leather bangle.
“Why?” Donovan grumbled, glancing at it before reluctantly accepting the offering. The leather was smooth and supple in his hand and, when brought it to
his nose, he could smell faint traces of magic. “What does it do?”
“It’ll keep our scents off you,” she explained as she reached up and grasped the ‘holy shit’ handle above the door. The woman seemed most comfortable holding onto that damn thing and it made Donovan think she didn’t trust his driving skills Annoyed, he wished she’d settle down already. “You know, since you’re marinating in it right now.”
Marinating in it? That was a horrible way to phrase it. He slipped the bangle on and was surprised when it tightened to fit his wrist perfectly. “Where’d you
get this?”
“Does it matter?”
These damn people and dodging questions. “Aren’t we suppose to be allies?”
“Sure. But you don’t go revealing all your secrets to your allies, do you? There’s always something you keep hidden in your back pocket.”
“That makes it sound like you’ve got a knife.”
“Well. I do. But I don’t use it for stabbing.”
Donovan stared at her for a couple seconds before forcing himself to go back to watching the road. “What do you use it for then?”

Chapter 154
“Dag Swiss Army knife, Alpha. Luse it for a lot of things
Oh for the love of… Donovan had thought Beatrice was difficult to deal with but this chick? Even if he survived, there was a good chance he’ll have lost his mind in the process.
“Don’t tease the guy too much,” Marlow called from the rear. “He’ll blow a gasket before we even get there and I’m pretty sure none of us can legally drive.”
Donovan had to stop himself from closing his eyes as he took a moment to breathe because, as the witch stated, he was driving and doing so with closed eyes was not conducive to avoiding oncoming traffic. Then again, death was sounding mighty nice.
He’d wanted to shift and run to Bluemoon pack – it was faster – but that meant leaving them behind. Showing up tired from the run would also lower the odds of success, especially if the Council or Bluemoon pack decided to take issue with his wanting to grant Beatrice fer freedom. And he knew that would be
the case without needing to think about it,
Checking his rearview mirror, Donovan caught sight of Riaghaire and shuddered. Vampires weren’t suppose to have reflections but this one did. And he
