Chapter 160
BEATRICE
It didn’t take long for Tweedledick to return with Alphass Donovan. What Beatrice really wanted to know was why the Beta was so intent on finding out who wrote the letter. And what he was willing to do in exchange for this information. His fixation made her nervous. It was proving to be useful but… it made a chill run down her spine whenever she thought about it.
With the Mchezaji Alphass was another huge man most definitely a wolf who looked like a Viking in modern clothes. Long brown hair tied back, long beared trimmed all nice and proper okay, that part wasn’t as Viking as the rest but that was beside the point. Dude looked scary.
“Looks like you’re getting the royal treatment,” Alphass Donovan noted, sounding almost amused at her predicament.
Beatrice shrugged her shoulders, still sitting on the floor at the back of her cell. Why move to greet him when being lazy was all the rage? ‘I’ve had worse. Being forced to share a room with Hendricks had been worse, though she’d weaselled out of that by locking herself in the Bathroom. Too bad both cell and bathroom were one and the same here in the dungeon.
“What did you do this time?”
“You weren’t brought here to talk about my failures,” she told him with a sigh. Not that she’d really done anything. Except, maybe, piss off some Elders. But only a tiny bit.
“Uh huh… then what did you want to talk about?”
Beatrice noted that Donovan kept glancing towards Tweedledick, as if checking he was still there; still listening. “Hey, Tweedledick, mind giving us a minute?”
That got everyone’s attention. At first Beatrice wasn’t sure why, because it was a legitimate question, then she remembered Tweedledick wasn’t actually the
guy’s real name,
“You’re not suppose to have any visitors,” the Beta replied, sounding unhappy. “I’m already breaking the rules by being down here myself. Leaving you alone
with them will only make my punishment worse if we’re caught.”
Punishment? He was risking punishment for a name? “What’s the punishment for being here? And fetching these two?” Yes, she specifically used the word
fetch because it was dog related. So sue her. She was going to get her jabs in every chance she got. Life was short, after all.
“He might get his ass kicked, locked up down here for a while, forced out of the pack… He could even lose his rank as Beta,” Donovan replied with a frown. Turning to the Bluemoon wolf, he continued, “Why are you risking this?” She was glad to hear another person was in the same what’s up with this guy
boat.
“It doesn’t concern you,” Tweedledick replied through gritted teeth. “I’ve already done it so let’s just hurry and get this over with.”
Yeah, there was no way the Beta was going to explain, that much was obvious. He was hot headed but also very stubborn, and Beatrice understood
stubbornness.
“So this letter,” Beatrice began, drawing everyone’s attention a second time. She had decided that having Tweedledick there to listen in was fine, since he was putting himself on the line. Besides, if he told anyone about what was discussed, he’d have to admit that he’d broken the rules. “The fuck is this about? Who the fuck wants revenge against the wolves for killing me?”
Alphass Donovan glanced at Tweedledick a second time then sighed. Again. “Who do you think?”
