DONOVAN

0:1

A front row seat to Beatrice’s execution was not something Donovan wanted but being a visiting Alpha meam he was treated to the best of Bluemoon pack’s amenities. He wondered if the human would be able to weasel her way out of things this time or if her luck had finally run out.

She’d seemed nonchalant about the entire thing back when they’d spoken in the dungeon, though her scent had told a different story. Worry, fear, anxiety…. none of it had showed on her face, nor did her body language betray how she’d truly felt; only her scent spoke the truth.

Alpha Hendricks was definitely not good enough to be fated to someone of her calibre. And Donovan couldn’t believe he’d just thought a human was better than a wolf. What was the world coming to?

The execution was to take place in the outdoor amphitheater on Bluemoon pack lands. The main stage was built at the base of a natural incline, allowing the tiered seating to follow the slope of the land. A building had been built for the backstage area, with one of its outer walls functioning as a backdrop for the stage itself.

The Bluemoon pack was made up of just under a thousand wolves and most of them had shown up for the event. The seats were packed and standing room was limited, to the point some people brought blankets to sit on the grassy slope.

It was ridiculous. They were eager to see the life of their to-be Luna, the fated mate of their Alpha, end as though it were some award winning play.

– or displeasure – of getting to know Donovan pointedly ignored the fact the only reason he wasn’t of the same mind was because he’d had the pleasure Beatrice to some extent. It was hard not to respect someone who so boldly stood their ground no matter the circumstance. She didn’t think twice about going toe to toe with anyone or anything. Even he would be hard pressed to meet with a Master vampire and talk shit to their face. Or take on the Council of Elders with the full intent of speaking his mind regardless of the repercussions.

What a waste of a life.

Gamma Porter sat to his left. His third in command hadn’t said anything since they’d left the dungeon hours ago. Having known him since they were both pups, Donovan was aware his Gamma had found the human interesting, but more in a passing kind of way. Like an ‘oh, that’s an interesting thing over there but you continue walking without bothering to stop and examine it.

Ten minutes after being shown to his seat, Donovan noted people were beginning to perk up, idle conversations dying down. The Council of Elders filed ange the stage, evenly spacing themselves out before facing the gathered crowd. The silence that descended was tense as everyone waited.

Normally he’d have never thought to take note of how the Council placed themselves or the stage but that was then. Now he saw it was all or show, to tear advantage of the space and maximize dramatic effect. This wasn’t a play, it was an execution, and they were still putting on airs That didn’t sit well with the Mchezaji Alpha.

He glanced over at the Bluemoon Alpha, who sat a dozen seats to the right and appeared unbothered by what was about to take place Disgushing

Donovan half turned in his seat as everyone else did as the sound of a vehicle approaching reached their sensitive cars. He couldn’t see withing from where he sat but knew it had to be Beatrice who’d arrived.

A ripple rolled through the crowd and soon the human appeared, hands clasped behind het back and she walked down the aisle, head held fugh the ar
