Chapter 185
“So it’s helping her with the backlash, Avery noted, eyes wide. “Damn. She went full in on it.”
“He refused to reject her,” Riaghaire growled, causing the EMT to freeze, eyes growing wide at the sound.
“Keep going,” the she-wolf ordered Lloyd, who returned to what he’d been doing. The scent of his fear had only strengthened but at least he could still w Riaghaire couldn’t help but respect the beast for that, though he would never say so aut loud. Ever.
Avery continued to speak. “So, Alpha Hendricks decided to double down, and it forced her hand. But rejections need to be from both ends to work. She should have been able to withstand the initial blow from her end breaking… The fact she’s unconscious tells me he finally accepted the rejection?”
Riaghaire shook his head. “He never said a word. She was fine for a moment before collapsing. The beast collapsed as well, at almost the same time.”
Avery frowned. “That meant it worked. But… how? That makes no sense. He would need to verbally accept the rejection for it to work.”
“I’m not a doctor but I think she should pull through,” Lloyd spoke up, interrupting their conversation and visibly flinching when Riaghaire gave the EMI his full attention. “I think. Her heart rate is stupid low, which is bad, but it’s beating. The time spell is giving her body a chance to bounce back without needing medical intervention but, once it’s gone, someone will need to monitor her heart rate and make sure it keeps beating.”
*Should it stop, have you a way to start it again?,” Riaghaire demanded, the ache in his chest only worsening.
“Yeah,” the wolf nodded. “CPR can keep her going until it starts again – if it starts again. But that’s… dangerous in its own right, especially with a wolf
doing the compressions.”
“Don’t give me that,” Avery snapped. “You do them on humans every day. The worst thing you’ve done is break a few rib and that’s not uncommon when
doing chest compressions.”
The thought of someone breaking his gréine’s ribs in an attempt to save her life left Riaghaire feeling conflicted.
“He could just… Turn her.”
“Lloyd! What the fuck?!”
“I will never Turn her,” Kiaghaire growled, showing his fangs as he felt his eyes begin to change. “Never speak of such a thing in my presen

“Kalejil seepe,” Riaghaire replied. There were magics there that would help, not to mention Gregory had purposefully sent these beasts; it was only natural tu assume the feline was prepared for this sort of thing, thus making the decision on where to bring his gréine a simple one. “It would be wise to contact Gregory before arriving.”
