Chapter 184
It didn’t make setise
“I must find a hospital,” Riaghaire told the she-wolf, not wanting to bother with any more chitchat.
“Shit,” the she wolf swore. “Lloyd, grab the kit.”
“Seriously?”
“Do it ”
The driver’s door swung open and a male wolf emerged. He gave the vampire a quick glance before disappearing around the back of the vehicle.
“What happened?” Avery asked as she approached, earning a hiss from Riaghaire. Raising her hands, she said, “Sorry. I guess we’ve never actually met before. I’m on Dad’s side, which is currently… not on the side of the other wolves, if what I felt earlier is any indication. I’m here to help him – or you, ir this case. Please. Lloyd is an EMT – an emergency medical technician. He’s trained for this kind of thing. Will you let us look at Beatrice? There might be something we can do.”
“She heeds a hospital,” he reiterated, feeling annoyed. Why was it so difficult for them to understand? Just tell him where to go!
“We should stabilize her first,” Avery explained, hands still raised. “We might even be able to wake her up if it’s nothing magical keeping her unconscious.
“…you can do that?”
“A shot of adrenaline can go a long way in the right circumstance. Please, Riaghaire. I’m not asking you to trust me without giving me a chance to earn it.”
What choice did he have? If what she said was true that Gregory had sent her – it was possible this she-wolf could help. If that was the case and he doubled down on getting to a hospital, only to arrive too late or be unable to get his gréine the care required…
“Very well,” he nodded. It didn’t mean he lowered his guard around the two wolves, only that he would allow them provisional access to Beatrice. That also meant she stayed in his arms while they looked her over or he would simply move on and stop the next vehicle he saw.
Lloyd approached while carrying a large red canvas satchel and looked like he wanted to be anywhere but there. He stunk of fear and anxiety. Good, it meant he knew not to test the bounds of Riaghaire’s patience.
Kneeling on the asphalt, the vampire waited.
“It’s safe,” Avery told the male wolf, glancing at him over her shoulder before beckoning to come closer. “Come on. She needs help. Get in that EMT headspace you go on about and do your job, Lloyd.”
“R-right,” Lloyd nodded as he moved close and set the satchel on the ground. He opened it in a single, fluid motion and, after pulling on some funny smelling gloves, turned to Beatrice and began his examination.
Avery, for her part, explained what the EMT was doing. Getting his gréine’s temperature, blood pressure… it all blended into a stream of useless information for the vampire. He didn’t want to ask her to elaborate, because it didn’t matter if he understood what was being done so long as it would help.
“Her time has been slowed,” he informed them after a minute, realizing this could affect the care his gréine required.
Lloyd paused mid motion. “Her time’s been slowed? What does that mean?”

“Magi, Avery grumbled. “It means magic. Who hit her with that? That’s some heavy stuff – stuff we wolves can’t use. Are you saying the Council has a frone working for them?”
Riaghaire blinked. A Grone was a powerful witch
