Take Me Once, I'll Bleed You Twice novel Chapter 187

Chapter 187

The dark wolf stopped howling and swiped at the russet, who was pushed back by the hit. Again the dark wolf attacked but this time his opponent was inside the ward and the blow stopped short.

Fuck, Claire swore silently as the wolf who’d been defending her realized what was happening. Not good.

Instead of turning towards her or being a nuisance something she fully expected to happen. the russet wolf collapsed, panting heavily as he lay on the

ground.

Claire blinked, then took a moment to scan the beast. So many cuts, so much blood. One of his front legs appeared broken, which had to be painful as all

hell. She’d broken her arm once, as a child, and it had been some of the worst pain she’d ever experienced.

Without realizing it, she reached out and ran a hand through the poor thing’s fur. It was only when his ears flicked if her direction that Claire realized what she’d done. The fur she touched wasn’t covered in blood, thankfully. It was soft and felt good between her fingers, making the decision to keep petting him

easy; it was the least she could do, since he had saved her life. Or whatever.

Looking away from the wolf, who continued to pant, Claire took stock of what was happening around them.

The rest of the Bluemoon pack had shown up okay, maybe not the entire pack, but a couple dozen wolves were racing around making noise and fighting Bahiti. They did try catching the fae twins but the brother, being on a giant wolf’s back, was almost untouchable, and his sister was acting like a damn mosquito. It had to be annoying as all hell, dealing with those two shit disturbers.

Even with his recent growth spurt, Bahiti couldn’t take on so many opponents at once and, once the dark wolf joined the fight, the others suddenly fought in a more organized manner. Some would force openings while others attacked. A few focused on the flitting fae, others on the one riding Bahiti.

You got anything in that bag of yours?Claire called out, getting worried as the fide of battle began to shift in favour of the Bluemoon wolves.

Not that’ll help with this shit show.Marlow sounded resigned, as if their fate was sealed because he was out of tricks.

You should have brought more than just those marbles.

Blow Me Balls. They’re called Blow Me Balls.

Whatever. I stand by what I said.

I did bring other things. I got silence charms, sleep charms, scent charms, blind charms

Some of the sleep charms are darts, aren’t they? Throw those!

I might hit the big guy and that’d be bad.

Excuses. It all sounded like a bunch of stupid excuses to Claire. Marlow Either throw your shit or I’m dismissing your god damn ward

And if I accidentally hit the big guy?

You really thick Ptyrese and Lan’gny can’t stop a damn dart from hitting their new pony?

okay, that’s fair. I forgot about them.

Chapter 187-

Claire anted to smack the witch upside the head. As that option wasn’t currently available, she let out an annoyed huff instead. In a low voice she grumbled, Maybe he’s the one who should have been rolled over the ground; it’d have rattled some sense back into that damn brain of his.”

The wolf she was still petting thumped his tail on the ground, as if in agreement.

Ptyrese popped into existence, landing on the russet wolf, who attempted to stand but found he couldn’t. More company is coming, the fae spoke in a low voice. It wasn’t often that the twins made the effort to sound serious which meant, when they did, everyone knew to pay attention. If you want to live,

wolf, you won’t move.

What about Donovaner, Bahiti?

Teal eyes shone as the fae glanced back at Claire. Brother will keep him safe but this oneI like this one, too. So I’m keeping him safe.

Claire wanted to ask exactly what about this particular wolf had gotten the fae’s attention it couldn’t be that he’d saved her because, to the fae, that would mean little, if nothing at all but there was no time to wonder about it before the temperature suddenly dipped ten degrees. Uh

Shhh,Ptyrese hissed out. Not a sound. Do not move. Do nothing.

Marlow?Claire whispered as her heart began to race. What the fuck was coming that made even the fae nervous? She’d been of the opinion nothing fazed the twins; to see Ptyrese react like this was concerning.

He is smart. He will know.

As if a switch had been flipped, it felt like someone had turned off all sound. The battle between the wolves and Bahiti was silent now as the world waited for whatever was coming to arrive.

A harsh wind swept through, causing Claire to shiver. It was followed by a horrible sound she hoped to never hear again. The battlefield was suddenly covered in blood. No, that wasn’t right. It was drenched in it.
