Chapter 188
BEATRICE
‘I fucked up‘ was Beatrice’s first thought as she opened her eyes to see a sky littered with more stars than usual. Even the moon a perfect circle – looked larger and brighter than ever before. Without needing to look around she knew that, wherever this was, she was no longer on Bluemoon pack lands. Whether that was good or bad she couldn’t say.
“You’re awake.” The speaker’s voice was soft, almost melodic. Beatrice didn’t trust it.
“Where am I?,” she asked, trying to keep her question from sounding like a demand. Something about this place felt familiar and she couldn’t shake the impression that being unnecessarily rude would come back to bite her in the ass – in a much deadlier fashion than usual. Then again, everything was out to kill her lately. Should she bother worrying about deadly retribution? Better to be safe than sorry, she supposed.
“You are beneath the night sky.”
No shit, Sherlock. If Beatrice had a dime for every non–answer she’d gotten in the last few weeks, she’d be rich. Damn Others and avoiding straight answers. “I can see that. And where are we located under said night sky?”
“Mmm. Nowhere and everywhere. Does it matter?”
“It kind of does,” Beatrice grumbled as she sat up. The grass under her felt lush to the touch; full of life as it swayed in a warm, gentle breeze that carried the scents of nature and nothing more.
A few feet from where she sat crouched a woman. Beatrice found herself staring, uncaring if it came across as rude.
The woman was beautiful – more so than anyone or anything the human had ever set eyes on until that very moment. Hair as dark as the night itself cascaded around a heart shaped face with large eyes, a perfect nose, and cupid bow lips. Her eyes were the same eerie gold as the wolves but on this woman they somehow looked right. What showed of the woman’s skin was pale and flawless, almost iridescent under the light of the moon. The dress she wore appeared to be woven using moonlight itself. It was impossible to tell where it began or ended and, whenever the woman moved even the slightest, it left a mesmerizing trail of light in its wake.
“I see. Humans are such funny creatures,” the woman replied with a warm smile. “I suppose if I must describe where we are, the best answer would be between the worlds of what is and what will be.”
“That makes even less sense.”
Rich laughter filled the air. “I’m not surprised. You’ve such a linear understanding of the world that you’re unable to fashom a place such as this. But that’s fine – you needn’t understand it to be here.”
“Great,” Beatrice trailed off. A million and one questions bounced around her head as she continued to stare at the woman. “Who are you?”
The woman clapped her hands once, looking pleased. “Good question. I have many names Coyolxauhqui, ka Ata Kella, Igaluk, Artemus, Nyange Devana Andriamahilala, Luna, Selene, Selardi. . I dare not name more, as I fear you would grow bored”
That was a fair assessment. Beatrice had stopped listening after the first few. Like hell she could remember coyoxa something of iguana whatever “So what do you want to be called?”
“Oh.” The woman sounded surprised at being asked to choose a name. “I suppose the name others seem to favour would be Moon Goddess
Oh fucking hell to the no, Beatrice thought to herself as she closed her eyes. Nope. This was not happening She was not in the presence of the damn deny

she’d just rejected. She absolutely refused to believe this was happening.
“You don’t seem happy with my choice,” the Moon fucking Goddess giggled. “Maybe you should choose another.”
“Oh that’s not what’s making me unhappy, Beatrice assured the deity.
“Is that so?”

The goddamn goddess was amused at how uncomfortable the human felt. Great. Just fucking great.
“Why am I here? I’m not exactly one of your, uh, wolves.”
“True…” the goddess trailed off, a smile gracing her beautiful face. “But you are still one of mine, even though you’re human.”
