Chapter 190
BEATRICE
Beatrice wasn’t sure how to respond. Part of her wanted to apologize, because who in their right mind would reject a goddamn deity if it meant doir their face? But also, she wanted the Moon Goddess to reject her already and send her back to… Earth? Home? Somewhere that wasn’t here.
The silence between the two stretched for far too long before Beatrice finally broke it. “So, uh… are your.. going to accepted my rejection, or am I sti you forever?” Probably not the best way to ask but how the hell else was she suppose to say it? Please kick me out? Send me to the curb? At least sh being polite about it, which was progress when it came to her dealing with an authoritative figure – especially as of late.
“I wish to speak with you some more before I make up my mind,” the Moon Goddess replied. “As I said, you are rather interesting and I am unable to interfere with your world, at least not directly. After I’ve assigned a soul to a vessel, it is then beyond my reach. Having the chance to chat face to fa
rare occurrence.”
“…then… how am I here, if you’re not allowed to… interfere…?”
“Because you gave me permission,” the deity beamed. “If specific criteria are met, I am able to… nudge things just a touch.”
“…and bringing me here to chat is considered ‘nudging things just a touch’?” Wow. Either this lady’s concept of a nudge was very, very loose, or she w powerful that this sort of thing was a drop in the bucket. Regardless of the answer, Beatrice didn’t actually want to know. Ignorance was best in this situation and she was all for being left in the fucking dark, thank you very much.
“Well… you aren’t actually here,” the goddess hedged with a light giggle. “Your body is still where it should be; I’ve simply pulled your soul over for a 1
Beatrice opened her mouth then closed it. How the hell was she suppose to react to that new bit of information? Her body felt pretty damn real. Then a she had no idea how being just a soul should feel. Would it… feel like a normal body? Fuck, this was just going way over her head. “So… uh. I’m still alive, right?”
won’t affect your chances of long term “Mmm? Oh, yes, of course. Well. For now. You are human, and you did sever the mate bond, so your body is…” the goddess trailed off, scrunching her fac just a little as she bit her bottom lip, “… having some trouble. The presence of your soul – or lack there of survival. If you’re fated to pass then that is what will happen.”
“If I’m fated to… But aren’t you the one that determines my fate, since my soul technically belongs to you?”
“Of course not, silly human of mine. Do you not remember what I just said? I can’t interfere with your world. It’s not up to me d we ove the choices you make and whether Fate is feeling generous.” The goddess spoke the word ‘Fate’s though it were someone Yet another deity to worry about.
