Chapter 198

BEATRICE

Waking up felt weird. To Beatrice, it was like she’d been in a deep sleep – a sleep that was still clawing at her hoping she would choose to stay and n wake. Like hell was she going to let it win. Lying around all day are sleeping was just not how she wanted to spend fer time. There were too many thi she had to do – wanted to do to laze around.

Riaghaire’s ‘welcome back’ made her heart flutter and brought a smile to her face as she struggled to keep sleep at bay. It took a few minutes before sh successfully pushed past the need to close her eyes and lose herself again but once she did it was as though someone had injected her with energy.

The only problem now was how stiff she felt. As much as she wanted to get up and move around, sitting up was proving to be difficult Luckily Riaghas was eager to offer his help and she soon found herself upright.

“Where… are we?,” she asked as she gazed around the room.

“Kaleidoscope,” he replied.

Riaghaire had moved to sit beside her on the cot, his arm still around her in case she needed the support. Beatrice wasn’t about in say it was necessary that she didn’t need his help – because why would she want him to stop holding her?

“That is a long story,” he toid her, his grip on her waist tightening just a bit. There was worry in that action, which she could understand.

“How long have I been out of it?”

There was a pause, almost like he was hesitant to tell her the truth. “Almost four days.”

Huh. Four days? That… was longer than she expected. Then again, she had no idea what answer she’d been expecting, her hall was al difficult to recall what had happened. “Did everyone make it?”

Another hesitation. It made her heart ache at the thought of someone losing their life because she’d needing saving yo She was no damsel. “Wolves were the only ones harmed,” he finally replied.

That didn’t explain the hesitation she’d noticed, making Beatrice frown “You don’t sound

Chapter 198-

Beatri » took a breath, held it for a handful of seconds, then slowly exhaled. How did she feel, knowing the man sitting next to her had snuffed out the of who knew how many people just to get her sorry ass to safety? Did she fear hifft, now that stories of his ability to kill were no longer just stories? D think less of him, having proof that his hands were stained in blood?

More importantly, what did it make her, if she had no issue with any of it?

“I mean…” she began after a moment, trying to organize her thoughts into something coherent. “You’ve never lied to me about what you’re capable of doing, or what you’ve done in the past. I already knew about this side of you and I guess now I can!… deny it? But I don’t think I ever did. I’m not sat how to put it into words; all I can do is tell you not to worry about it too much.”

As she spoke, Riaghaire turned to meet her eye, his brow furrowing, as if she’d been speaking a foreign language “You are… unbothered by 197

It was her turn to shrug. “I honestly don’t know. If I am, then it’s my own fault. Like I said, you told me all about this already, and I saw you in action! You’ve shown me exactly who you are and to pretend you’re anything else would make me a naive idiot.

“As far as I can tell, my mind hasn’t changed; or maybe it hasn’t hit me yet. I don’t know. What I do know is, right now, I don’t really feel any one way about it. All of it just feels like a fact, plain and simple – there aren’t any emotions attached to it.”

Riaghaire stared at her for a moment before giving a slow nod. “Very well.”

Beatrice nudged her shoulder against him. “You worry too much, Riaghaire. But thank you for getting me out of there. And everything else

“Of course.” A smile was creeping its way onto his face as he spoke. “I am simply glad you have returned.”

“Same. Can you tell me what happened after I blacked out?”

“I can only tell you what pertains to myself. If you wish for the entire account, you must speak with both Claire and Alpha Donovan-
