BEATRICE

Learning that the mate bond was growing stronger ruined the rest of Beatrice’s day. She ate the lasagna thar’d been forgotten on the counter becaus would go to waste otherwise, but she didn’t particularly enjoy it.

Riaghaire didn’t ask to give it a sniff, most likely sensing her mood was bleak and that sort of request fight not go over well.

When the sun finally set, they were both ready to leave.

“Which direction shall we take?” The vampire inquired, watching as Beatrice came down from the second floor. She’d found a turtlene of jeans in her mom’s closet, exchanging what she’d been wearing for them.

She might have also broken into her mother’s safe – it wasn’t breaking in if she knew the passcode, right? – and, after storing the jewelry from the ceremony that hadn’t taken place, borrowed a little bit of money, to help get them through the next few days. Without her bank card, ID, or phone thi no way for Beatrice to access her bank account, which meant her own money was out of reach. Her mom would understand… Okay, that was a ise. The woman wouldn’t care why her daughter took the money, only that she had and that was unacceptable.

Luckily, Beatrice’s mom wouldn’t be home for a few days, which gave her daughter enough time to, hopefully, figure things out.

“We’re going to the city,” she informed her companion.

“You have a destination in mind?”

Beatrice nodded. “Yeah. I’ve got a friend ! want to see. She should be able to help me access my bank account, if nothing else.”

“You cannot do so as is?”

“Banking has changed a lot,” she explained with a shrug. “It’s a lot more… Complicated. Beatrice moved to the back door and opened it before motioning for Riaghaire to get in.

“Here we are,” Trevor told them as he pulled up to the curb and put the vehicle in park.

Beatrice leaned forward as she said, “I was mugged earlier, so I don’t have my phone or anything for electronic payment. I hope you’re okay accepting physical cash? I’ll pay through the app once I get to my friend’s, though, so this is more like a bribe to hold you until then.”

“Serry to just spring it on you like that,” she apologized as she began leading him a bit further down the block. They’d been dropped off in a residential suburb. It wasn’t a bad neighbourhood, but it also wasn’t in a great area either. There was plenty of crime that happened, but that was mainly on the street and not in the homes or so Beatrice had been led to believe. Not that she was overly worried. With a vampire by her side, she had a feeling anyone who tried to mess with them would end up regretting their life choices very quickly. “! probably should have said something sooner, but 1… forgot.
