Chapter 52
BEATRICE
They hadn’t gone far when Beatrice turned up a paved walkway leading to a three story townhouse. It had there front doors, as it’d been converted i three separate rentals, each taking up an entire floor. They stopped–in front of the left most door, where she proceeded to knock.
Riaghaire was looking around, a frown creasing his brow. She wasn’t sure what was on his mind to bring about such an expression, but what did it m could be any number of things that caused it.
The sound of footsteps and someone saying, “It better not be that damn MLM lady again…,” reached Beatrice’s ears before the door was thrower
The woman, who stood staring wide eyed at the two people on her doorstep, was the same height as Beatrice but far more delicate in app hair was the colour of wheat and cut short, except for long bangs used to frame a heart shaped face. Eyes the colour of a storm cloud narrow woman realized who had rung the doorbell. “Bea, you bitch, where have you been? I’ve been worried sick. I swear, if I hadn’t heard from you morning I was gonna march down to the police station and make them take the damn missing person’s report.”
“Sorry about that, Claire. I can explain, I promise,” Beatrice meekly laughed as she held her hands up in surrender. “It’s… a bit complicated, and you w
believe half of it.”
Claire had stopped listening, her stormy eyes now locked on Riaghaire, who was staring at her in return. “Get inside.”
“Huh?” Beatrice glanced over her shoulder, then back towards her friend. “Oh. That’s… Ryan. He’s fine.”
Claire had already grabbed her wrist and pulled Beatrice inside, slamming the door in the vampire’s face. “How do you know him?” She demanded.
“Claire, calm down. He isn’t going to hurt us.”
“How. Do. You. Know. Him.”
Beatrice had never seen her friend so angry or worried, especially not at the same time. “It’s part of why I’ve been MIA the tast few days
“Dammit. Look at me.” Claire grabbed Beatrice’s chin and forced their eyes to meet. The stormy eyes of her trend wemed to be sex hang the hang her green ones, but frowned when whatever she’d expected to find was nowhere to be seen. “I don’t understand he uttered no hem i brunette’s chin. “I was sure..”

Chapter 52
“Tops hat happening. He’s manipulated you into thinking he’s some stand up guy when he’s the exact opposite. I said no, and nothing is gonna chang
There was a light knock at the door, filencing both of them. “Do not worry about me. I have no qualms at not being allowed entry,” Riaghaire told then through the door. “I will take a short walkabout and return. I would request you stay within your friend’s home until then.”
“That’s fine. Enjoy the fresh air,” Beatrice called out through the door.
“Seriously, Bea, what are you thinking?” Claire hissed, dragging her further into the home.
“I’m more interested in what you’re thinking,” Beatrice grumbled, allowing the blond to push her onto the couch. “What is going on? Why are you so w up about him? He’s literally never done anything bad to me.”
Claire stood over her friends, hands on her hips. “That’s what I want to know. You disappear for days and then show up with… some strange ge to tell me what happened first.”
“Since when have you ever worried about strange men?” Beatrice argued as she stubbornly crossed her arms. “You’ve invited plenty over after only know them a few hours. I’ve known Ryan for longer than that and yet you’re giving him the shit treatment?”
Claire shook her head. “That man is bad news, Bea. Really bad news.”
“What do you mean by bad news?” Beatrice was so confused. Normally, Claire was a warm, inviting person. Hell, she went through men – they were candy. The fact she’d reacted with such intensity to Riaghaire was so out of character it made her friend worry.
and women –
Even when Beatrice had introduced her ex–boyfriends to the blond, her reaction had never been this intense. Never had she slammed a door in their face. Riaghaire hadn’t even had a chance to say anything, for fuck’s sake.
“Bea, what happened to you,” Claire asked again, voice firm. It told Beatrice she wasn’t about to back down until an answer was provided, no matter how long it took. The stormy eyed blond was one of the few people who could match her stubborn streak.
Beatrice let out a sigh. “I was kidnapped, alright? And Ryan saved me.”
A snort came from Claire. “Yeah, like I’m going to believe that. Try again.”
Throwing her hands up in frustration, Beatrice exclaimed, “I don’t know what you want from me, Claire. I was literally grabbed all the street by two men, thrown in the back of a car, and taken away. Ryan is the only reason I got out of the
“Bullshit.”
“Well, then, I can’t help you, because that’s what happened. Would you rather the?”
“I’d rather you told me the truth.”
“I just told you the truth.”
