Chapter 75
BEATRICE
Online banking was a godsend. It was the only way Beatrice had of accessing her money, and it allowed her request a new card without needing to show
Now that she’d taken care of the most important thing, all she had left to do was… wait. What else could she do? Alphass Hendricks was most definitely hunting for her and would eventually figure out she was staying with Claire – if he’d done any research on her, he’d know who she was closest to Then there was Alphass Donovan – and yes, he’d earned the modified title. What if he contacted Hendricks? It was implied that the Bluemoon wolves held a lot of power and handing over the escaped to-be-Luna would be looked upon most favourably.
Then again, Donovan had been wary of Riaghaire, so it was just as possible he’d keep his mouth shut to avoid getting a visit from a very pissed off vampire.
This all meant Beatrice had grown restless before the day was over.
“I will literally do anything, including scrubbing toilets,” she whined as she followed the blond around the apartment. Beatrice was working on wearing Claire down into approaching the owner of Kaleidoscope for a job. “You know I won’t slack off. Please?”
“You can’t possibly want to work somewhere with Others, especially when an Alpha wolf is hunting you,” Claire retorted. “It’s basically advertising where
you are.”
“Not if I stay in the back,” Beatrice countered as the bathroom door closed in her face, This didn’t deter her in the least. Raising her voice, she continued to speak. “I can wash dishes, bring up whatever stuff you need from storage or whatever. Come on, Claire, you know if I don’t stay busy I’ll go absolutely
batshit.”
“You’re driving me batshit,” Claire yelled. “Fine. I’ll call my boss and ask. Happy?
“Thank you,” Beatrice sang through the door, grinning widely as she spun around to find Riaghaire, who’d also been trailing behind them, an amused look on his face. “Oh, and Riaghaire, too, since he goes where I go.”
An annoyed sound came from the bathroom. “Yeah, fine, whatever. Now leave me alone so I can pee in peace.”
“You are rather relentless,” the vampire commented as he followed Beatrice into the living room.
“I’ll take that as a compliment. Besides,” she paused, glancing back at him, “I doubt you’re enjoying the whole ‘stuck inside’ thing.”
Riaghaire didn’t answer right away, which was an answer in and of itself.
“It’ll be good for both of us to get out and do something. With work, we can at least make some money so we aren’t mooching off Claire.”
“Mooching?”
“Taking advantage of her generosity, Beatrice explained. “Being a financial burden. I firmly believe in pulling my own weight
The vampire gave a slow nod but said nothing more. He wasn’t really much for idle conversation, which was fine. Beatrice was too busy worrying about everything to be inuch of a conversationalist, anyway.
Claire did as she promised, contacting her boss and, reluctantly, pitching the idea of giving jobs to Beatrice and Riaghaite.

The vampire was still in jeans, though he’d changed into a white shirt Beatrice had given him while at her mom’s. It wasn’t the uniform employees at Kaleidoscope wore, but it would do his first shift.
As excited as Beatrice had been at the prospect of a job, what she ended up doing was pretty much what she offered. Lots of dishes, carrying things out of storage to restock the bar as the night progressed, cleaning the back rooms… She had to clean all the restrooms, but only at the end of the night. You karma, when they were at their absolute worst. She regretted everything.
Riaghaire was added to the security team, assigned to stay by the door leading to the back rooms. It was his job to prevent non-employees from wandering through that one door. It also doubled as him keeping Beatrice safe, as he stood between her and the rest of the world. Yes, there was a back door that lead outside, but it was locked, bolted, and chained. Only employees could unlock it, and it required some sort of magical permission from the owner.
She had yet to meet said owner, which Beatrice found odd, but shrugged it off. Claire hadn’t given their name or gender, only referring to them as Boss. Fine, whatever. So long as she was allowed to work, and got paid, who was in charge didn’t really matter.
