Hands trul shaking, stre reached up and cupped his face with them. She ignored the fact she now had blood on her hands as the added a bit of pressure to Hey hands. He could easily shake her off; instead, he stilled, eyes boring into hers as she said, “Riaghaire, it’s over. I’m safe. You are also safe. We are safe

She could feel the muscles under her hands contract even further before slowly releasing the tension that had built up. Bit by bit, the vampire relaxed until finally, his eyes were almost back to normal. There was still a crimson glow to them but it was confined to his irises.
Beatrice let out the breath she hadn’t realized she’d been holding. “Thank you, Riaghaire.”

“Now that he’s settled down,” the nameless person began, taking another step into the roofe.
Riaghaire whipped around, holding an arm out as if to keep Beatrice away from the stranger.
“… I see…” they trailed off, a ghost of a smile on their androgynous face.
Now that Beatrice’s view was unobstructed, she could make out their features. Their skin looked weathered, as thought they’d spent a lifetime under the sun. When they were within a few feet of the stranger, Beatrice could feel the vampire’s muscles tense beneath her hand. In response, she gave him a reassuring squeeze, hoping he wouldn’t lash out.
The stranger gave her a small nod, dark eyes smiling at the pair of them, as she guided Righaire through the hole in the wall. They gave Beatrice chilis
