Chapter 82

The shower turned on and she could hear when Riaghaire stepped inside, as the rustling curtain was impossible to miss. Every so often it would rus as though he were making sure she hadn’t jumped up and made a run for it.

A knock at the door startled her, almost to the point she lowered her hands. “What’s up?,” she called out.

“I have some clothes for the vampire,” came the high pitched voice of the smaller of the two goblins. Beatrice couldn’t recall his name.

“Just throw them in, please,” she told him.

The sound of the door cracking open was followed by something soft hitting the floor. The door clicked shut a second later.

Eventually, the shower was turned off and Beatrice listened as Riaghaire dried himself before silence fell.

“Are you decent?,” she asked after a moment, wanting to lower her hands.

Warm fingers grasped her wrists, startling Beatrice into sitting up straight instead of hunched over as she’d been. Those fingers lowered her hands to! Riaghaire crouching in front of her, his eyes back to normal. He had pulled on a pair of pants forest green sweats but had forgone the shirt.

“Riaghaire?,” she asked, trying not to worry over his seeming inability to use words.

“You are unharmed?,” he croaked, fingers tightening around her wrists.

“Yeah,” she nodded, trying to give him a reassuring smile but her mouth trembled too much for it to come out right.

Riaghaire frowned, earning a sigh from the human,

“Physically, I’m fine,” she corrected herself, shifting a little on the uncomfortable toilet cover. “Mentally… who knows.”

He was silent for a while, his eyes staring into hers as if searching for a specific answer. “I am… sorry…”

Beatrice blinked, startled. “Huh?”

“You… I…” He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. “Bloodlust makes a vampire… volatile Dangerous. It makes them… me.. lose control There is only the need for bloodshed.”

“Okay…” she trailed off, not sure where he was going with this but willing to give him a chance to finish before asking the millions of questions that d popped into her head.

“What is done when crazed by bloodlust “he paused, mouth pressing into a hard line “It is not pretty”

Was he worried his actions changed the way she thought of him? Because that was “Riaghaire.” she began, twisting her wrists so she could take hold at his arms without breaking his grip “Why are you apologizing for doing what I asked you to do?”

She could feel his body tense and watched as his eyes widened a bit “What you asked me to do?,” he echoed, confusion evident in his voice and expression.

Beatrice nodded once. “I won’t lie and say I was ready to witness all that but Isn’t that basically what had to be done for you to keep your promise? | asked you to stop the wolves from taking me and I did it knowing, on some level, that it meant someone would probably, eventually. lose their life .. I’m not so naive to think you’d let them walk away from a fight, not when you sounded proud of how you decapitate wolves for fun”

-you are not scared…?”

“Oh, I’m terrified,” she taughed nervously. “But not of you, per se I mean… he found me here and tried to grab me in a place that’s suppose to be a neutral location for Others. I didn’t think… which was my own mistake, really. And then there’s my headache, which I should have known meant he was doing something to the bond… and…” Beatrice trailed off, bitting her bottom lip. “Thank you, Riaghaire.”

The vampire blinked, his grip on her wrists loosening at her words….you are thanking me?”
