Chapter 10: Party Girl
Riley’s POV
Everyone in the underworld has heard the name Veilwalker.
This person can heal anything- no matter how rare or fatal it is.
And the Veilwalker is also super mysterious. They choose their patients entirely based on personal preference. One time, an Alpha offered fifty million just to save his dying son, and Vailwalker still turned him down.
No one knows what Veilwalker looks like. No one knows where to find them.
What they definitely don’t know is that Veilwalker is actually just an 18–year–old girl from a small village.
And yeah. That’s me.
Well, to be fair, the name originally belonged to my grandmother. She saved countless lives under that name before retiring. I learned everything she knew and carved out a new legacy for myself.
So now, I live a double life.
By day, I’m the quiet, obedient student Riley who’s invisible to most people in school. And yet by night, I become Veilwalker, the most feared and respected healer in the underground.
“800K. Take it or leave it,” I said flatly, eyeing the man in front of me. “Make it quick–I don’t have all day.”
He just stared at me in disbelief. “No way… Veilwalker is a fucking woman? But they all said it was a man…”
I smirked. “Then go find a man to treat you. Good luck with that.
I turned to leave.
“Wait–wait!” He grabbed my wrist. “Fine. I’ll take it.”
“Payment first.”
Once I confirmed the money hit my account, Mateo strapped him to the chair. I pulled on my gloves and examined the infected wound. The skin was already blackening. Whatever poison this was, it ran deep–but not beyond my reach.
“This might sting a little,” I told him calmly.
Ten minutes later.
I tossed the blood–covered scalpel into the tray and peeled off my gloves. The guy had passed out due to the pain, but his wound was already healing, thanks to my power.
Mateo looked at me in awe. “Holy shit. That surgery would’ve taken me over an hour, but you finished it in ten minutes. You’re
getting scary good.”
“I need to talk to you. Alone.” I said.
“Sure. This way.”
He led me into a small room next to the clinic and locked the door.
“I got your grandmother’s letter. I can’t believe you actually came to Full Moon Pack!” His face lit up with joy. “So? What do you think? Want to officially open shop here? We’ll set you up your own space, money, staff, whatever you need. Just name it.”
I nodded. “Same rules. I pick the patients, I name the price. No one questions me.”

He looked thrilled. “Of course!”
“But that’s not why I’m here today.
I undid two buttons. A deep crimson wolf fang mark burned against the skin on my chest.
“Can you get this fucking thing off me?”
He took one look and nearly choked. “Is that…Wait, is that a mate mark? You found your mate?!”
I sighed. “I wouldn’t call that asshole my mate. But yeah, more or less.”
“And you want to get rid of the mark? The one symbol of sacred, Moon Goddess–blessed love?” He looked at me like I was insane.
“Yes. And once it’s gone, I want the bond broken too.”
“Impossible!” he said without hesitation. “Do you even hear yourself? That bond is written into our DNA. It’s sacred. Removing it would be like… spitting in the face of nature. Of the Moon Goddess herself!”
I frowned. “So you can’t do it?”
“No one can. Look, I know you’re a genius, Riley. But even you can’t fight the Goddess.”
That stung a little.
Mateo was the son of one of Grandma’s closest friends, and he’s the only person who knows I’m Veilwalker. He runs the biggest underground club in Full Moon Pack, and he’s a black–market doctor himself. We’ve been writing letters for years. I know how talented he is.
If he says it’s impossible, it probably is.
But that doesn’t mean I’m giving up.
No way am I letting that bastard Ezra have a claim on me. I’ll find a way. I have to.
“Fine. I’ll figure something else out myself.” I buttoned back up.
“Riley, I’m begging you don’t do anything reckless. You don’t know what happens when you go against the Moon Goddess, it could be… really dangerous.”
I rolled my eyes internally.
More dangerous than staying within ten feet of Ezra Ravenshire? I doubt it.
“Alright, alright, save the lecture. I’m not here for a scolding,” I said. “Wanna grab a drink?”
He sighed and gave me a look. “Yeah, why not. You know I’ll never say no to you.”

We left the clinic together. Mateo owned a bunch of bars and nightclubs in the city, but tonight we both just wanted a place where no one knew who we were. He said he had a spot in mind and we headed there.
“So,” he asked as we walked. “How’s your new life and lovely new family?”
“It’s… tolerable. If you ignore the crappy classmates, the annoying stepdad and stepbrother, and the complete lack of trees around here to jog in.”
He laughed. “This isn’t Pebble Creek, I get it. But your mom insisted you come. What could you do?”
“Exactly. What could I do,” I muttered.
He cleared his throat and gave me a side–eye. “Also… you still haven’t told me. Who’s the lucky guy? You just got here

couldn’t have met that many people.”
I fell silent.
I really didn’t want to tell anyone that my stepbrother was my mate. Just like he saw me as a disgrace… my feelings were mutual. “Doesn’t matter,” I said coolly. “I’ll be rid of him soon enough.”
Then I quickly changed the subject to diver his attention. “So, how’s business at the clinic? Looked like you’ve got a steady flow of patients.”
“Could be better. The Healer’s Association still sees us as a thorn in their side. They’d love to wipe us out completely. Apparently King Soren thinks all doctors who didn’t graduate from some fancy school should be failed and hanged.”
He paused, then added quickly, “No offense.”
“None taken. Let’s just hope he never finds out what his precious stepdaughter’s been doing behind his back.”
We’d arrived at the bar Mateo mentioned. He held the door open for me, and we stepped inside.
The second we entered, I nearly went deaf.
It wasn’t just the pounding music–it was the flashing lights, too. On a raised platform, a row of half–naked girls danced to the beat, throwing sultry looks down at the crowd.
The DJ was shouting over the music, “Come on bitches! Shake it harder! Rock your butt. Wiggle your tits! Only the hottest, sexiest ladies get to party with the VIP tonight! Is that all you got?!”
The crowd screamed. One girl even whipped off her bra and flung it into the crowd. She touched her breasts and moaned.
I raised an eyebrow and shot Mateo a look. So this was the place he had in mind?
