Tempted By my Evil Lycan Stepbrother novel Chapter 12

Riley’s POV

He caught me completely off guard then immediately tried to push his tongue into my mouth. I clenched my teeth to stop him and shoved at his chest, trying to break free.

But he held me tight, refusing to let go.

I bit down hard on his lip, but it didn’t work. He kept kissing me, sucking on my lips until he was satisfied. Only then did he slowly pull away. I immediately gave him a punch at his chest.

Didn’t expect you to be a biter,he said with a crooked smirk, touching the corner of his mouth.

Why the hell did you kiss me?I snapped. Don’t tell me you’re suddenly in love with me.

Don’t flatter yourself,he said smugly. I just wanted to remind you that I always get what I want. No matter how you fight me. No matter what you say.

I glared at him, shaking with rage. But deep down, I knew he was right.

He was stronger than me. And thanks to this stupid mate bond, he had the upper hand. He could track me, mess with me, control me. Being the Lycan King’s son basically gave him free reign to hunt me like I was nothing.

If only I could find a way to break this damn mark, everything would be easier.

I swallowed my frustration and asked, Why did you make me kiss you in front of Mateo just now? I thought we agreedwe didn’t want people knowing about the mate bond.

You just don’t want your little boyfriend to find out,he said darkly.

Can you stop? I’ve told you already, Mateo’s just a friend. Why won’t you listen?!

He squinted at me like he was trying to tell if I was lying. I took a deep breath and repeated myself, slower this time. I swear. We’re just friends. I’m not looking to date anyone.

Not until I get this psycho out of my life.

He finally raised an eyebrow and gave me a small smile. Then, like I was some pet, he reached out and stroked my hair. Good. I hate this whole mate bond thing, but I hate the idea of you messing around with someone else even more.

I fought the urge to roll my eyes. Okay? So can we go now? Me and Mateo?

You two heading to another bar to keep drinking?

No,I said with a bite in my voice. I think I’m just gonna go home. Clearly my mate doesn’t like me being out too late.

He actually laughed at that and stepped aside. That’s right, Riley. Go home. And don’t lie to me. I’ll know.

I pushed past him, trying not to make eye contact, and bolted out of the women’s restroom.

Mateo was waiting nearby, looking worried.

Hey, are you okay?he rushed over to me the second he saw me. I saw Ezra go in after youI wasn’t sure if I should barge in or what. Please don’t tell me you’re drunk?

I’m fine. Let’s just go,I muttered.

We finally walked out of that goddamn club.

The night air was cool and fresh, and without Ezra’s scent clouding everything, I could finally breathe. I inhaled deeply, feeling the tension in my chest ease for the first time all night.

Still wanna go to another bar?Mateo asked.

I shook my head. No, I think I’ll just head home.I believed that Ezra actually had a way to track me. And I wasn’t going to give that psycho another chance to cause trouble.

He looked a little disappointed. Alright. I was hoping we could talk more, catch up. But I’ll see you next time at the clinic?Of course. And Mateo, I’m serious about getting rid of the mark. Please keep looking into it for me, okay?

He looked at me, probably seeing the desperation in my eyes, and finally nodded.

What the hell. Yeah, I’ll help you, Riley. I don’t want you stuck with the wrong guy either.

The next day was another fresh slice of hellAKA school.

I was used to the students ignoring me or talking shit behind my back. That didn’t bother me anymore. But now it seems that even the teachers were starting to turn on me.

As soon as I walked into Healing Class, Ms. Bright called me up to the front.

You’ve missed four days of class, she said coldly. And we’ve just started the semester. Care to explain?

The last three days were my stepbrother’s comingofage ceremony,I said. My family insisted I attend. I think my mom already called you about it.

She gave me a sharp look. Clearly, she didn’t think partying was a valid excuse to skip school. Trust me though, if I had a choice, I’d rather be stuck in class than dragged to that ridiculous event.

Fine. Let’s say the last three days are excused. What about the first day? Where were you then?

I hesitated.

The classroom had started to fill up, but Ms. Bright made no effort to move the conversation somewhere private. Everyone was staring at me now, waiting to see what dirt would come out.

Miss Monroe?

I took a deep breath. I got drunk that day.

What? Drunk?!Her voice shot up.

Yeah. But it wasn’t on purpose. It wasan accident. I promise I’ll catch up on everything and turn in all the assignments-

Do you think school is some kind of joke?she snapped. Well guess what, Miss Monroe. This isn’t whatever lawless backwater you crawled out of, where you can party and still expect to pass exams. This school is for the best, the elites. I don’t care who your parents are but right now you just don’t deserve to sit in the same classroom with them.

I stood there quietly while snickers echoed across the room.

I honestly don’t think you belong in my class, she added sharply. This course is extremely advanced. Missing four days means you’re already behind, So I suggest you pack up your things and leave now.

I can catch up,I said firmly.

You think too highly of yourself, she scoffed.

I bit down on my tongue. I wanted to say her syllabus was nothing. It’s child’s play. I’d mastered all this by age five. If I really wanted, I could even take over her class and do a better job than her.

But I wasn’t here to stir up more drama. I just wanted to keep a low profile and survive this year.

Please just give me one chance,I said as respectfully as I could. If I can’t pass the quiz or complete the assignments, then you can kick me out.

She still looked pissed, but finally said, Whatever. But I say you are wasting your time.

Thank you, Ms. Bright.
