Chapter 21: I’ll Destroy Your Crush

Riley’s POV

What?

I could barely believe what I just heard.

Ms. Bright just said I was in Ezra’s team?

But that couldn’t be right. Something’s wrong!

For a second, the entire field was completely silent. Then chaos erupted. Everyone started whispering to each other, some girls even screamed. Everyone standing before me turned their heads around, staring at me.

“No, that’s not possible,” I blurted out. “There has to be a mistake…”

“No. Freaking. Way!”

A voice, much shriller than mine, shot out from the front.

A gorgeous blonde girl stormed out of her line and headed straight for the stage.

I recognized her instantly. She was the one hooking up with Ezra that first day in the West Wing dorm. His rumored girlfriend, Danica.

“There must be a mistake!” Danica screeched. “I’m Ezra’s healer. No way he’d team up with that little bitch!”

Ms. Bright remained expressionless. “I know this is hard to believe. But Riley Monroe’s name is right here on my list. Someone on your team must have submitted it.”

“No! Absolutely not-!”

“I submitted her name,”

I froze. My mouth fell open as Ezra casually stepped up to the stage. He had one hand in his pocket, acting all calm and chill, like none of this was a big deal.

“Riley is my teammate. There’s no mistake,” he said to Ms. Bright.

How could I be on his team? He didn’t even ask me about it.

“Wait a second!” I shouted, shoving my way through the crowd. “Hold on. Don’t listen to him -I never agreed to this! Please take my name off the list!”

Before I could reach the stage, Danica blocked my way like a storm. She shoved my shoulder, eyes blazing.

“You cunt! I’d never let you steal my spot!” she hissed. “And I bet you like this huh? Stealing from other people? Just like what your whore mother did!”

My eyes turned ice–cold. “I don’t know what the hell happened ok? And you better leave my mom out of this.”

“Oh please, don’t act all innocent. You probably begged Ezra to let you join. Have you no shame? After what your mother did to his family? How can you even show your face around him?!”

I clenched my fists. “Well you are right about one thing. I don’t want anything to do with him. So this has to be a mistake.

She raised her hand, ready to slap me across the face

Ezra caught her wrist mid-

“Ezra?” Danica gasped, looking at him, hurt and betrayed. “Why are you doing? I’m trying to get rid of her for you.”

He shoved her away from me and stepped between us. “Who said I need your help? I already told you. Riley’s my healer. End of story.”

Danica’s face contorted in disbelief and rage. “WHAT?! Have you lost your mind? I’m supposed to be your healer. I am your girlfriend! Plus you hate Riley. Why on earth would you pick her anyway?”

“I don’t know. Maybe I just felt sorry for her,” he shrugged, his tone flat. “And I never said you are my healer, nor my girlfriend. I don’t do dating. That was all in your head.”

Everyone sucked in a sharp breath, including me.

Shit. That’s cruel. You don’t say that to a girl in front of everyone.

Danica looked like she was about to faint.

“Are you crazy?” I hissed at Ezra, keeping my voice low. “Who said I wanted to be your damn healer anyway? You don’t get to make that decision for me.”

He glanced at me, all cocky and arrogant.

“You’d be expelled at the end of the day if it weren’t for me. I’m doing you a favor. You should be grateful.” he said with a smirk.

“I don’t need your help. I already have a team.”

“Liar. Like anyone in this school has the gut to team up with you. I’m telling you nobody dares. Except me.”

I wanted to tell him how fucking ridiculous he was. But before/I did, I saw someone else came out of the line.

It was Odin. And Olivia was trailing after him, looking all mad and panicked.

“I dare. Riley’s in my team,” he said to Ezra. Loud enough for everyone to hear.

Olivia looked mortified. “What the hell are you doing? We should stay out of this mess

But Odin waved her off. “Riley and I already had an agreement. We’re going to the Hunting Season together So you really shouldn’t bother, Ezra.”

The crowd held its breath. This drama just got way more interesting.

Ezra narrowed his eyes, his expression dangerous.

“Who the fuck are you?” he growled, his voice freezing.

“My name is Odin. And this is my sister Olivia.”

“Didn’t you know my rule? No one in this school is allowed to hang out with Riley Monroe. Let alone team up with her. Or do you want to make yourself my next fucking target?”

Odin stood up straight. He didn’t flinch at all. “First of all, I find your rule offensive and ridiculous. So I don’t intend to follow it. And I thought you were only trying to pull Riley into your team because you were worried she might get expelled. But I’ve taken care of that we’ve already talked it through. So you can back off now.

Ezra snarled. “Nobody tells me what to do. If anyone’s backing out, it’s you.”

They stood face–to–face, glaring at each other. The tension was electric. Everyone around them was tensing up.

Ezra’s lips curled into a wicked smile. He looked so evilly handsome. “So what now? We gonna settle this with a fight or what?”

“If you don’t back off, I don’t see other options.”

There was a collective intake of breath. Olivia covered her mouth in shock.

Even I was stunned.

None of us thought Odin actually had the guts to stand up to Ezra. He’s just a regular werewolf. And Ezra’s the Lycan King’s heir.

“Fine.”

Ezra’s expression darkened. He stretched his neck and cracked his shoulders, fixing his gaze upon Odin. “You want to die so badly I sure won’t stop you. Bring it on.”

He suddenly let out a thunderous roar.
