Chapter 23: No Lycan Wants You
Riley’s POV
I shouldn’t feel guilty or scared.
But Ezra’s gaze still sent shivers down my spine.
King Soren, on the other hand, looked totally pleased. “Oh really? So this boy–he’s a student at Royal Academy too?”
“Uh, yeah.” I swallowed hard, trying to change the subject as fast as I could. “But it’s not a big deal or anything. We’re just going to hang out, maybe go for a run…”
But of course, they weren’t going to let it go that easily.
“What’s his name?” my mom asked, eyes gleaming with curiosity.
“He’s a Lycan, isn’t he?” King Soren added.
“His name is Odin. And no, he’s not a Lycan. He’s a werewolf. Actually, we’ve known each other since we were kids. He’s the Alpha’s son from a neighboring pack.”
My mom giggled like she was thirteen. King Soren frowned.
“So just a werewolf, huh?” His voice turned low and serious. “When you start dating officially, I’d expect your partner to at least be a Lycan. And from a respectable bloodline.”
I rolled my eyes internally. Since when did he get to control my love life?
“Come on, Soren. She just started dating,” my mom said quickly. “And who knows, she might find her mate soon.”
“Exactly why she should start meeting eligible young men now. In fact, I have a few candidates in mind. Decent Lycan boys from good families. Riley should start seeing them. Maybe dinner, a few dates…”
CRACK
A sharp noise cut through the room, making all of us jump.
Ezra’s wine glass had shattered in his hand. Blood dripped from his palm.
“Oh my god!” Mom gasped.
“What’s wrong, Ezra? Can’t even hold a glass properly?” King Soren snapped.\
“I’m fine,” Ezra said coldly.
He grabbed a napkin and wiped the blood off like it was nothing, tossing the stained cloth into his plate. “Seriously, Father? You want her to date a Lycan? Even Alpha heirs wouldn’t take her. Let alone a Lycan.”
“Enough. Riley is my daughter. She deserves the best,” King Soren warned.
“She doesn’t have a strong bloodline. No one’s ever going to take her seriously,” Ezra said, smirking.
I could hear my mom breathing hard beside me, full of rage. She snapped, “Riley is so smart. So pretty. And so talented. She’ll find someone who truly values her, despite her origin or bloodline.”
Ezra shot her a cold look. “All she’s got is a pretty face. And that’s only useful if she wants to be someone’s mistress.
I felt Mom getting ready to throw the whole table at him.
I quickly grabbed her wrist to stop her.

“No, actually, I think Ezra’s absolutely right,” I said sweetly, meeting his eyes with a sarcastic smile. “I’m just an ordinary werewolf. Definitely not good enough for any of those fancy Lycans. So I’ll make sure to stay as far away from them as possible.” Ezra’s jaw tightened. I smiled even brighter.
King Soren sighed. “No need to decide so soon. You’re both still young. Who knows, maybe you’ll meet your mates soon. Let’s worry about what types of girls or boys you might like when that day comes.”
“Well, I already know one type I’m definitely not into arrogant, rude jerks,” I said with a shrug.
Ezra shot up from his chair, dragging it across the floor with an angry screech.
He didn’t say a single word. Just stormed out of the dining room.
“I can’t believe that boy’s temper,” King Soren growled after the door slammed shut. “How am I supposed to trust him with this kingdom someday?!”
Mom didn’t say anything. She was still fuming.
I just quietly picked up my fork and started eating.
Yep. Another typical dinner at the royal family. So normal.

After that tense and awkward meal, I said goodnight to them and finally dragged myself toward my room, yawning. God, it had been a long day. I was ready to crash.
Except… someone was already waiting outside my door.
His shadow leaned against the wall. The second I saw him, my guard was up.
“What do you want?” I hissed.
He stood up straight and stepped closer, looming over me.
“You’re not going on that date with Odin.” he said icily
I snorted. “Not your business.”
Suddenly, he grabbed my shoulder–HARD. I winced from the pain.
“Don’t forget this,” he growled low, right beside my ear. “You already have a mate.”
“I thought neither of us was taking the mate bond seriously,” I hissed.
He froze, then gave me a crooked, dangerous smile. His green eyes sparkled in the dark.
“Oh? So you do want me to take it seriously? Because trust me, Riley–I can take it VERY seriously.”
He suddenly leaned down. His lips crushed onto mine.
What the fucking hell?!
We were at my parents‘ house!
My mom could come over to check on me at any second, or a maid could stroll by and bump into us.
And there we were, making out in the hallway like we weren’t step–siblings.
I shoved him hard, but he pinned my wrists above my head. His tongue pushed into my mouth, forceful and demanding, claiming every inch.
I panted, trembling in his arms.

I didn’t want to admit it. But he was so damn good at this.
I started getting dizzy. My whole body went weak. He wrapped his arms around my waist, lifting me up and pressing me against the wall as he deepened the kiss.
…No. No. No!
This isn’t right!
I gathered every ounce of strength I had and shoved him off me. He stumbled back, finally letting me go.
“What the fuck, Ezra?!” I gasped, shaking with fury.
He casually wiped his mouth with his thumb, smirking. “You’re such a hypocrite, Riley. You say you like Odin, but here you are. Making out with me.”
“Screw you, asshole! You forced me!”
“I didn’t force your tongue to slip back into my mouth,” he said with a shrug.
I was breathing so fast my chest hurt. “So what is this, huh? Are you in love with me or something?”
He burst into laughter like I just told the best joke in the world. “In love with you? God no, never. You heard me at dinner. Not even an Alpha’s son would want you. And certainly not a Lycan. Certainly not me.”
“Then what the hell was that for?!”
“You’re mine, Riley.” His voice dropped to a low, chilling whisper. “No way I’m letting some lowborn mutt have you.”
I glared at him with all the hatred in the world. Who the hell did he think he was?! He didn’t possess me. I was not a fucking object.
“Well, you’re not stopping me from going on that date,” I growled.
He laughed again, backing away. “Sure, go ahead. Oh, and by the way–your lip’s bleeding.”
WHAT?!
He casually waved goodbye and walked away.
I slammed the door behind me and ran straight to the bathroom.
Looking in the mirror, I nearly screamed.
My lips were red, swollen. And the worst part was that my bottom lip was split. Like someone kissed too hard and then bit on it.
“Fuck!” I snapped, trembling in rage.
How the hell was I supposed to go on a date looking like this?!
Because of what happened the night before, I had absolutely zero mood for shopping.
So I didn’t ask my mom to go dress hunting with me. Instead, I just pulled out a white dress from my closet and headed out.
Odin and I had agreed to meet downtown. He said we should grab a bite first.
I spotted him before I even crossed the street. God, he was hot. His golden hair practically glowed in the sunlight, and he stood out from everyone else like a prince in a crowd.
My heart skipped a beat when I called his name.

“Oh hey, Riley,” he smiled so brightly when I walked up to him. “Wow You look really lovely today.”
“Oh… thanks.” I blushed
The white dress I wore was a gift from my grandmother. One of the nicest things I owned. She gave it to me before I left home, saying a girl should always have something nice for the big city.
