Chapter 25: Fucking Crazy
Riley’s POV
I glared at him, furious. That shameless jerk!
“Riley, your lips… what happened?” Odin asked, hesitating.
“Nothing!” I said quickly.
“You sure?” Ezra drawled, giving me a smug smile. “Because I know what happened last night. And I know who that guy was. You can’t lie about this, little sis.”
“You know?!” Layla gasped.
“Of course. We live under the same roof. Not that I’m thrilled about it either.” He shrugged.
“Spill it, come on!” Layla said, bouncing with excitement. “I bet it’s someone totally embarrassing.”
“Maybe the school janitor. Or one of the servants. Someone odd and disgusting!” Camila added.
Ezra turned to me with a smirk. “Want me to tell them?”
I saw the threat in his eyes. Those gorgeous green eyes–I swear, sometimes I just want to poke them out. “What will it take for you to keep your mouth shut?!” I hissed under my breath.
“You already know what I want, Riley. I literally just told you.”
I took a deep breath, fists clenched so hard my nails dug into my palms. “Fine. I guess… you can come with us. For the run in the woods.”
Ezra smiled like he just won a damn war. Danica and Odin, on the other hand, looked completely shocked.
“What the hell, Ezra?” Danica said, clearly pissed. “I thought we were going shopping and hitting up that fancy restaurant today.”
“Oh, we can do that anytime,” Ezra replied lazily. “But how often do we get to double date with my dear sister and her boyfriend?”
I couldn’t take another word from him. I stormed over to Odin and grabbed his arm, dragging him out of the store.
His brows were furrowed tightly. “So, what actually happened last night? Was there someone else?”
I stammered, “Of course not! And it’s–it’s nothing. I just bumped into the bathroom doorframe when I woke up. Ezra’s totally making stuff up.”
He stared at me, suspicious. I looked back at him, heart pounding.
I didn’t want to lie to Odin–he’s a good guy. But what was I supposed to say? That my stepbrother is actually my mate and he pinned me to the wall and kissed the hell out of me last night?
“Riley…” Odin started softly, but before he could say more, Ezra and Danica caught up with us.
“Well then,” Ezra said, wrapping an arm around Danica’s shoulder, “where are we headed?”
She still looked sulky but followed along anyway.
“We were thinking of hitting the west woods, then doing some mountain training–jumping, climbing, agility drills,” Odin explained.
“Perfect. We’ll take my car. Let’s go.”

The car ride was awkward as hell.

Ezra and Danica sat in the front. She looked like she was trying to fuse herself to his body, hanging off his arm, giggling nonstop. Ezra, though, sounded bored and distant. He always sounded like that around girls, like he was just too cool to care. Meanwhile, Odin and I sat in the back, with a good foot of space between us. He kept staring out the window, looking all broody. I had no idea if he believed my pathetic lie earlier. I wanted to explain, I really did—but I couldn’t say a word with Ezra right there.
God, I couldn’t believe what was supposed to be a sweet date turned into this mess!
Half an hour later, Ezra finally pulled the car into the parking lot by the woods.
There were plenty of young Lycans around training, jogging, shifting. But the deeper forest trails that led up the mountain were nearly deserted. That was where only advanced Lycans dared to go.
“So, should we shift here?” I asked once we passed the tree line.
“Let’s wait a bit. Too many people around,” Danica complained.
I shrugged and didn’t argue. We kept walking deeper into the woods.
Danica clung to Ezra like her life depended on him. Honestly, I wished the two of them would just disappear into the bushes and start making out. That was what he always did, wasn’t it?
But no. He insisted on walking right beside us, asking Odin all kinds of questions like he was some responsible big brother.
“So, Odin,” he said casually, “when exactly did you start dating my sister?”
“Ezra!” I gritted my teeth. “Can you stop? It’s not like that.”
“Well, at least you like her, right?” He turned to Odin with a chilling smile. “Otherwise, why are you on a date with her?”
Odin looked a bit uncomfortable, but he nodded. “Yes, I do like Riley. She was my childhood friend, and all these years later… she’s still the same amazing girl.”
Ezra’s smile vanished. His eyes darkened, like a storm was brewing.
“So, how far have you gotten?” he asked suddenly. “A kiss? Second base? Or have you two already-
“EZRA?!” I screamed. Was he insane?! Did he seriously just ask that?!
“1
He raised an eyebrow at me. “What? Can’t answer because you’re too scared I’ll find out what you’ve been doing behind my
T back?”
I was shaking with rage. “I have nothing to hide. Not everyone is disgusting like you, hopping on the first girl they see. I just think it’s none of your damn business.”
“Oh, it is my business. You know damn well that my father wouldn’t want you to date a werewolf. I’m just looking out for you, little sister.”
“Riley should be allowed to date whoever she wants,” Odin suddenly said. “Even King Soren has no right to control that.”
I silently cheered for him. Ezra’s jaw clenched. “You’ve got some nerve. Are you saying Riley should be with you?”
“Not necessarily with me. But with someone she chooses freely,” Odin said calmly.
The tension between them was so thick it could be cut with claws. They were staring each other down, full–on Alpha mode.
Danica probably didn’t like how we had been ignoring her. So she suddenly yelped and dropped to the ground
“M–My ankle!” she whimpered. “I think I twisted it.”

I rolled my eyes. Seriously? A Lycan spraining her ankle walking? Not buying it.
“Can you
still walk?” Ezra asked.

“N–No… Can you carry me back? She gave him her best doe–eyed look. “This place sucks. It’s so dusty, rocky, and so hot. My new outfit is ruined. Whoever planned this date has zero taste.”
“More like whoever trips over a twig has zero coordination,” I rolled my eyes.
She shot me a death glare. “I’m a healer. I’m supposed to be protected. Healers are delicate and precious. Look at you—your big feet and muscles–you don’t look like a healer at all! I can’t believe we go to the same department.”
“What a stereotype.” I scoffed. “A good healer should also be fast and strong. I’m telling you, best healers tend to be decent warriors too.”
“Bullshit. What do you know anyway? You’re just a freshman with zero knowledge about healing” she snapped, then turned to Ezra with a pout. “Babe, please carry me back. I know you don’t want me to get hurt…”
But he didn’t move.
“I think I have to agree with Riley this time.” He crossed his arms and stared her down.
Her jaw dropped. “Babe…”
“If you’re this fragile and expect to be carried around during the Hunting Season, maybe I need to kick you off my team,” he said coldly. “Nothing personal. Just saying as the team leader.”
Then he looked at Odin, a spark of challenge in his eyes. “Wanna race to the mountain top?”
“Let’s go,” Odin agreed immediately.
They both bolted forward. With two howls, they shifted and vanished into the trees before I could even get a good look at their
wolves.
After they were gone, Danica suddenly jumped up like nothing happened, glaring at me. “Why don’t you just go to hell, Riley?!”
“So your ankle just healed itself?” I mocked.
“I just don’t get it!” she shrieked. “Why does Ezra waste his time on you?! You’re crude, you act like a boy, and you’ve got no class! What the hell does he see in you?!”
I shrugged. “Maybe he’s sick of the cheerleader type. No offense, but you all look the same.”
