Chapter 41: Get Rid Of Ezta
Riley’s POV
My mind went completely blank in that moment. All those stares felt like fire on my skin, I felt completely exposed.
Is this how it ends?
Is this how my biggest secret gets exposed?!
King Soren might claim he loves me like a daughter, but I knew he wouldn’t hesitate to hang me if he found out about me and the rogues. And my mother… we had our differences, but I never wanted to drag her into this mess.
And
hing would stop him from punishing me.

Behind my back, I heard King Soren talking harshly to Ezra:

“Ezra only acts like he owns the world because he’s the King’s only heir. But what if there’s another heir? One born from me, and connected to you by blood?”
My mom put her hand on her belly, a smile full of ambition spreading across her face.
A chill shot down my spine.
“You’re pregnant?!” I blurted out.
“No, not yet. But soon,” she smiled, holding my hands. “Just imagine this, Riley. A brother with a claim to the entire Lycan kingdom, and he’s your blood. Our position in this country will finally be secured. And you won’t have to suffer Ezra’s bullying anymore. We could even have that arrogant bastard exiled if we wanted!”
I yanked my hands away.
“This is a dangerous path you’re walking. And I’m not going down it with you,” I gritted out.
She widened her eyes. “Why not, Riley? Think about what we could have! Money, fire clothes, jewelry-those are the least of it. Most importantly, no one would ever dare look down on us again! I know you’ve had a hard time at school now but that won’t happen anymore. And in the court, no one would dare mock me again. All of that misery ends with this son

“A son you’re not even pregnant with yet!” I snapped. “God, Mom! Didn’t you see how loyal those soldiers are to Ezra out there? They already treat him like he’s the King! What makes you think a newborn baby could change that?”
“Ezra’s relationship with Soren is tense. With just a little nudge, we could easily have Soren disinherit Ezra and make brother the King!”
your
I took a deep breath.
I always knew my mother wasn’t any ordinary woman. But even I underestimated the ambition hiding behind that soft, beautiful face.
“Do whatever you want, Mom. I’m not helping you. As soon as graduate, I’m getting out of here,” I said shortly.
She suddenly grabbed my arm. “Where do you think you’re going?”
“Let go, Mom! I don’t want to live in the Full Moon Pack. I don’t belong here-”
“Yes, you do. And so do I.” A stubborn, almost crazy gleam appeared in her eyes. “You will stay close to my side, and we will rule this kingdom together. One day, not a single Lycan will look down on us. I’m willing to strangle Ezra Ravenshire with my own hands if I have to-”
I shoved her away with all my might. “Stop it. NOW!”
“I’m doing this for you, Riley! All this planning, all this hard work… I’m doing it because I love you-”
“No! This is for your own interest and you gotta stop calling it love. Just shut up!”
I screamed at her, then turned and ran.
When I reached my room, my heart was still pounding.
What my mother was planning was insane. How could she possibly think her son could ever overcome Ezra’s influence in this country? Not to mention she wasn’t even pregnant yet.
I threw myself onto the bed, staring at the ceiling, exhausted.
Too much had happened in one day. The rogues, Ezra almost finding out about me, and then my mother’s scheme…
For a moment, I just wanted to catch the next train and flee back to Pebble Creek. Back to my grandmother’s side, back to my peaceful life.

There would come a day when the conflict between my mother and Ezra exploded. And when it did, une side would be my blood, and the other would be the mate.
I didn’t want to be caught in the middle of that. I had to find a way to escape Ezra’s control before then.
So I guess right now, my to-do list had two most important things;
First, survive the Hunting Season.
Second, look through more books to find a way to break the matebond.
Oh, and there was a third.

The wound on my leg wasn’t going to heal easily, and people close to me would notice eventually. Using my period as an excuse would only work once. I needed to come up with another good reason for the wound.
The next day when I got to school, my whole team was waiting for me at the gate.
Olivia’s face made it clear she didn’t want to be there. But when she saw me, she was still forced by her brother and Silas to walk
over.
“Hey Riley… can we talk?” she said reluctantly.
I stopped, crossing my arms, looking at her.
“What I did the other day… it’s-it’s not cool. So if you like, we should get back to practice. We don’t have much time before the Hunting Season.”
I snorted. “Doesn’t sound much like an apology.”
Her face quickly turned red. “Don’t push it. I came to you voluntarily, what more do you want-

“I want you to promise you won’t backstab me during the Hunting Season, and that you’ll follow all the team’s plans instead of turning everything into your personal show.”
