Chapter 45: Secret Exposed

Riley’s POV

It was Odin.

One hand on the doorknob, he stared at us shock as though we were two ghosts in broad daylight.

“No, that’s impossible…” he whispered, his face pale. “You two… you two are step–siblings…”

Ezra didn’t even look flustered. He shrugged. “You heard yourself. We’re step–siblings. There’s nothing morally wrong here.”

Odin glared at him. Then he turned abruptly and stormed out.

I immediately jumped off the bed to chase him. Ezra grabbed my shoulder. “He wouldn’t dare tell anyone.”

My foot hurt like hell, and so did the claw mark Ezra had left on me. But I needed to catch up with Odin and clear things up with

him.

He suddenly scooped me up from the ground and strode toward our ward. Nurses and patients passing by shot us curious looks.

I broke out in a cold sweat. “Put me down! Are you crazy?”

“Relax. It’s perfectly normal for a brother to carry his sick sister back to her room,” he said impatiently.

He set me down on the bed, locked the door behind him, then came back and kissed me hard.

“I hate other guys getting near you. Their scents are disgusting,” he muttered against my neck.

I didn’t know what to say, so I stayed silent.

He tucked a strand of hair behind my ear. “I’m going to talk to your healer again and find a way to heal you within a week. But in the meantime, rest well in the hospital, okay? I might be busy for the next few days.”

I sensed something. “What’s going on?”

“We still haven’t caught the person who met with those rogues. That person committed treason. I have to bring them back and put them on the gallows,” Ezra said icily.

I flinched and pulled my leg back under the covers

“How are you going to catch them? Any leads?” I asked, trying to sound casual
