Tempted By my Evil Lycan Stepbrother novel Chapter 74

Riley’s POV

I stared back at him, lost in his gorgeous green eyes.

I should be furious at his threat, but instead, at the bottom of my heart, I felt terapted. Like I was actually drawn to his dangerous charms. He was toxic and beautiful and maybe that was why no girl could ever say no to him.

Ezra leaned down again and kissed me before I could think

It wasn’t a gentle kiss. It was rough, hungry, angry-like he was trying to shut up every question between us by force. My fingers tightened around his jacket. My pulse was going wild. His hand was still under my dress, his body pressed hard against mine, and for one reckless second I forgot where we were.

Then-

BANG, BANG. BANG.

A heavy knock slammed against the door.

I jerked so hard I nearly slipped off the sink.

Ezra lifted his head, eyes blazing with irritation. “Fuck off!” he growled to whoever was outside.

The knock came again, louder. Then Silas’s voice called through the door, confused and suspicious at once.

“Riley? Are you in there? Why is Ezra in the ladies’ room?”

All the blood drained from my face.

God.

My heart almost stopped.

We couldn’t be found tangled in the bathroom like this. Stepsiblings-it’s already. forbidden. Not to mention all the ugly history between Ezra and me. Nothing could ever happen between us.

Odin knew-which was bad enough. I didn’t want to add another person to that list, even if it was Silas who I trusted very much.

I shoved at Ezra’s chest hard.

“Let me go,” I hissed.

He didn’t move. His jaw was so tight I thought he might actually break a tooth. “What’s his fucking problem? Tell him to fuck off.”

I glared at him in panic. “Ezra, I’m serious. Now.”

Another knock.

“Riley?” Silas sounded sharper this time. “Are you okay?”

For one awful second, Ezra looked like he might tell Silas to go to hell and keep me pinned right there anyway.

Then he swore under his breath and stepped back.

The loss of his heat made my skin feel cold all at once. I hated how much I missed his hug already.

I slid off the marble sink too fast and nearly stumbled. Ezra caught my elbow automatically, then let go just as quickly, clearly still pissed.

1 yanked my dress down, checked my neckline with shaking hands, then rushed to the mirror. My lips were swollen. My cheeks. were bright red. My hair was slightly messed up from his hands.

Damn it.

I grabbed the powder brush and patted at my face. Behind me, Ezra adjusted his jacket with a dark look.

“Do I look normal?” I whispered.

“No,” he said in a wicked voice. “You look like you just got fucked against the sink.”

“Very funny.”

The knocking came again.

This time I hurried to the door and cracked it open just enough to slip through.

Silas stood there in his suit, looking very suspicious. His eyes landed on me first, then flicked over my shoulder toward Ezra.

“Why is he here?” Silas demanded with a tight frown.

I prayed my face wasn’t still bright red.

“B-Because,” I said, searching my mind for an excuse, “he was here… checking on the party arrangements.”

I said that and immediately slapped myself. God! Even to my own ears, that sounded stupid.

Silas’s expression said he agreed.

“In the ladies’ room?”

“None of your fucking business,” Ezra said roughly.

“It’s royal nonsense,” I quickly cut him off, my voice weak. “You know how this is…as the prince, he is supposed to oversee every detail of this party…including the lady’s room…”

Behind me, Ezra let out a very dangerous mocking laugh. I wanted to stomp on his foot.

Silas looked from me to him again, his frown going tighter. “Oh.”

I crossed my arms and forced myself to sound annoyed instead of guilty. “Why are you here?”

His expression softened a little. “I came to see if you were okay. You disappeared for a while.”

“Yeah,” I said quickly. “I’m fine now.”

Silas still looked suspicious as hell, but thankfully he didn’t push it. “The party’s about to start. Odin skipped tonight for some reason. So I guess it’s just you and me here representing our team. Ready to head in?”

I nodded and we started down the hall together. The tension between the three of us was thick enough to choke on. I silently prayed to myself that Silas hadn’t noticed anything strange.

By the time we reached the entrance to the great hall, music was already pouring through the doors. Bright chandeliers lit the marble floor. Laughter and conversation drifted out in warm golden waves. Every guest, student and parent had arrived.

Silas turned to me first and offered his arm with a grin. “May I have the pleasure of walking you in? It’d make every boy in there jealous as hell.”

I replied with a small smile and reached to take his hand.

But Ezra’s hand closed around my waist first.

Before I could react, he pulled me straight into his chest and started trarching me toward the hall, completely ignoring Silas.

“Hey! What the hell?” Sifas cried behind our backs.

My breath caught and my heart started thumping again.

“Ezra!” I whispered furiously. “What are you doing?”

He didn’t even look down at me. His eyes were straight ahead. “You are coming with me.”

“Are you crazy? Let me go-

I tried to twist free, but his arm only tightened. People at the doorway were already staring at us, which made my heart stop. No stepsiblings were supposed to be this intimate. People would ask questions!

“Stop fighting.”

Ezra lowered his head slightly. His mouth brushed against my hair as he whispered in a dangerous voice. “I won’t let you walk in there holding hands with Silas like a couple. Not over my dead body.”

“Will you stop? We are just teammates!”

He let out a cold laugh. “Only a naive little fool like you would think that. I’ve seen the way he looks at you. He wants you.”

I blinked blankly.

What-Silas?! No freaking way. Ezra was definitely crazy.

Yet we had already stepped through the door and I had no way but to swallow back my protests. And the second we entered the great hall, the whole room shifted.

Almost everyone turned to look at us at once.

I felt the shock run through the crowd like a spark through dry grass.

I get why they were all shocked. Because under most people’s impression, Ezra hated me as hell and he wanted both my mother and me gone.

Yet right now I was in a silver gown, on Ezra’s arm, being escorted in by the Lycan prince like I was his most important person in this world.

My skin burned. Then something worse happened because I had seen King Soren and my mother at the end of the hall.

They were standing with the school’s principal. And the three of them turned around together.

ľ

My mother’s face changed first. Fury flashed over her face immediately. She had clearly expected me to still be locked in my room at home.

And King Soren was worse.

He didn’t look shocked. His expression was cold, terrifying.

His eyes settled on me, then on Ezra’s hand at my waist. I could feel his silent fury and it made my stomach turn.

Ezra didn’t slow down.

He led me straight toward the front of the hall and stopped before the raised platform, where they award the winner of the Hunting Season with a golden medal.
