Chapter 87: Drunk and Hot

Riley’s POV

Shit. Shit. SHIT!

For one second, all I could think was: I just slapped Ezra.

The Lycan prince.

The future king.

The most dangerous person in this whole city besides his father.

My palm was still stinging. The sound of it still seemed to hang in the air, sharp and stupid and impossible to take back

The two guards were still standing there waiting for Ezra to say anything. One of them looked from me to Ezra, then back again, clearly trying to decide whether he’d just walked into a crime scene.

Ezra touched his cheek. The red mark on his face stood out viciously against his skin. I gulped in fear.

What’s he going to do? Hit me back? Or order his guards to drag me out right now and expel me from this city?

Then, to my surprise, he simply let out a cold chuckle.

“I’m fine. Lady Riley’s just messing with me,” he said. “Leave us.”

The guards hesitated.

Ezra turned his head slightly and gave them a look that could have frozen hell.

“Now.”

That was enough. They backed out immediately and closed the door behind them.

The second we were alone again, Ezra turned back at me. My fear came rushing back so hard it made my knees weak.

He stepped closer, slow and controlled in a way that scared me more than if he’d exploded. His green eyes were so dark that they

almost looked black.

Then he leaned in close enough that his breath brushed my ear.

“…You can hate me all you want,” he said softly. “But it won’t change a damn thing.”

I swallowed.

“I’m not stopping, Riley. I will do everything I can to hurt you for betraying me. Remember I told your mom that I’m going to destroy your life? Well, get ready for that.”

A tremor ran through me. Yet I forced myself to lift my chin anyway.

“If I marry Leon, I won’t even be around you for long,” I whispered back. “So what exactly are you going to do then?”

Ezra’s mouth curved in a way that made my skin crawl.

“Marriage won’t save you.”

He looked me up and down slowly, deliberately, making me feel naked even fully dressed.

“If I want,” he smiled, “I can still make you moan and wiggle your butt on my bed on your own wedding night.”

Heat and humiliation slammed through me so hard I thought I might choke on it. He held my gaze for one more second to enjoy my reaction, then stepped back.

The look he gave me before leaving was almost worse than the threat itself Dark. Possessive Absolutely in control

Then he turned and walked out

I stood there shaking and then pressed my back against the cold wall, breathing fast.

…That fucking jerk.

I stayed in the ladies’ room until my heartbeat stopped trying to tear its way out of my chest. By the time I finally opened the door and stepped back into the store, Ezra and Jenny were gone.

The sales assistants were pretending to work, but all of them were whispering quietly. I caught the words “slap mark” and argument” and “how dare she” before they cut themselves off and glanced away.

I pretended I didn’t hear anything. I was too tired to care.

Leon was still waiting at the counter. He straightened up at once when I came over. I spoke up before he could say anything.” I’m alright with the ring.”

“What? You mean—”

“I don’t need a stupid ring,” I said flatly. “And I’ll tell my mom that if you don’t want to do it. So let’s head back now.”

He gave me an approving smile, like I was some unruly beast finally tamed. But I knew he hadn’t tamed anything. I just couldn’t be bothered to say another word to him.

“Very good, Riley. As my wife, you should always live this kind of simple, plain life. It’s a virtue—”

I cut off his stupid lecture. “I want to go home.”

“I’ll drive you back to the palace,” he said at once.
