Chapter 23 Cutting Losses
After finishing that up she switched screens to check the messages from Carter Group.
She noticed that Eugene hadn’t bought any short positions in Hanks Group at all.

Isabella thought about it for a moment and realized Eugene probably hadn’t planned on taking advantage of the situation from the start.
Otherwise, even with her warning—even if he had believed it and pulled out in time–he still would’ve taken some losses by now.
Thinking that, Isabella’s lips curled slightly upward. Looks like I stuck my nose in where it wasn’t needed.
Earlier, when she had spotted the application for shorting Hanks Group on Eugene’s computer desktop, she had assumed Carter Group was part of the frenzy too.
But it turned out they weren’t involved after all?
Isabella’s thoughts wandered for a moment.
Suddenly, a trading notification popped up on her screen.
Isabella raised an eyebrow.
Well, speak of the devil.
The source of that trading alert was none other than Powell Group.
Over at Powell Group, Adrian was sitting in the company’s top–floor conference room, his gaze icy as he stared at the group of elite traders gathered in front of him.
“You all told me this operation was going to go off without a hitch!
“After countless simulations and dry runs, now you’re telling me there’s been an unexpected twist?!”
His voice was freezing cold, his eyes sharp enough to burn a hole through everyone in the room.
Adrian was different from Eugene and Edward.
His style in business was like a great white shark–ruthless and predatory.
Anyone or anything that got in his way, or became his target, would get devoured by whatever means necessary to make Powell Group stronger.
Over the years, his approach in the business world had been exceptionally cold–blooded, and he was notoriously tough on his employees.
Powell Group embraced a wolf–pack mentality. Anyone who couldn’t bring in profit for the company was shown the door, no matter what they had done in the past.

Chapter 23 Cutting Losses
Finished
Even if you had made significant contributions to the company before, there were no extra payouts or special treatment.
Of course, he made sure to follow all legal requirements for severance, but beyond that, you wouldn’t see a
penny more.
Powell Group had a reputation in the industry for being cutthroat.
But Adrian couldn’t have cared less.
At that moment, his cold eyes swept across the room, and no one dared to meet his gaze.
Someone spoke up nervously, “Mr. Powell, this really wasn’t our fault.
“All our analysis and projections pointed to this being the perfect opportunity to acquire Hanks Group and absorb their assets.
“It wasn’t just us–all the major competitors made their moves too.
“Mr. Powell, if this was our mistake, then wouldn’t that mean everybody else made the same mistake?”
“That’s right, Mr. Powell. This situation was truly impossible to predict.
“Hanks Group suddenly released major positive news they had kept under wraps. It’s obvious they set this trap on purpose.
“We all walked right into it.
“Even though Powell Group took heavy losses, none of the other competing firms came out unscathed either.”
“Exactly, Mr. Powell.”
The group scrambled to defend themselves.
To be fair, they weren’t entirely making excuses.
Hanks Group’s response had been executed flawlessly.
For the first ten minutes after the market opened, they hadn’t made a single move.
Only after everyone had taken the bait did they immediately drop the announcement.
Not only that, but the news had been completely kept under wraps.
No matter how much digging they had done beforehand, everything had pointed against Hanks Group.
It was clear Hanks Group had deliberately set this trap.
Adrian’s expression was equally furious.
His voice turned even colder as he demanded, “I don’t care whose fault this was. What I need to know right
