Chapter 105 The Weight of Justice
James’s POV:
I dragged my battered body along on horseback, riding behind Cindy.

We brought only 100 loyal guards. No army. That was Franklin’s demand, and Cindy agreed to it.
At the foot of the mountain, the wind cut like ice.
“Cindy,” I finally asked, unable to hold it in anymore. “What do you really know? This karma and witnessing… What happened to Evelyn?”
Cindy pulled her reins and stopped the horse. She turned back to look at me.
There was pity in her eyes. A kind I couldn’t understand.
“James,” she said slowly, “have you ever wondered why, back at Evernight Gorge, Evelyn could lead 3,000 soldiers and defeat an army of 100,000? Why did Franklin sign a peace treaty after that?”
I froze. “B-because Evelyn was brave. Because she was a genius commander.”
“Brave?” Cindy gave a short, cold laugh. “She can’t even defeat me. And you think she could defeat Franklin? Franklin has lived for 800 years. He is the powerhouse that fought in the same era as the previous King Ryken.”
“T-then how did it happen?” I had doubted it before, but Evelyn always brushed it off, so I never pressed
her.
“Because that treaty was bought with lies and disgrace.” Cindy took a deep breath. “Evelyn never defeated the main vampire force. She ambushed a supply camp filled only with the elderly, women, and children. And worse, she tortured and killed a prisoner of great importance.”
My heart skipped. “A prisoner?”
“Yes. A 16-year-old vampire boy.” Her eyes hardened. “She didn’t just kill him. She abused him in ways no one should endure. That act enraged the vampire royal family. Franklin didn’t retreat because he feared Evelyn. He retreated to gather his full forces for extermination-level revenge,”
My mouth fell open. No words came out.
How could this be?
No. It couldn’t be true. This was only Cindy’s side of the story.
Evelyn wasn’t that kind of person.
“Now do you understand what justice really means?” Cindy pointed toward the mountain peak. “Franklin didn’t come to invade. He came for revenge. He came to demand justice for that boy. He captured Evelyn but didn’t kill her, because death would be too easy.”

At that moment, a horn sounded from the mountaintop.
The sound was deep and mournful, filled with the chill of death.

At the end of the mountain road, a massive black tide began to descend. The vampire army was coming.
Cindy’s POV:
My Gamma guards and I formed ranks at the foot of the mountain.
15,000 werewolf soldiers stood in black armor, silent as stone, staring at the dark flood slowly moving down the path.
The vampire army showed no charge formation. Yet, the pressure of high-level dark beings alone made many young werewolves tremble without meaning to.
Tens of thousands of pale figures marched in perfect order. No breathing. No voices. Only the cold scrape of armor.
Franklin removed his helmet. His face was aged, yet still striking. Long silver hair was tied behind his head. His blood-red eyes were deep and calm, without a trace of emotion.
He stopped about 600 feet away and raised his right hand, gloved in white.
