Chapter 111 A Silent Pact

Cindy’s POV:

After James left, Prince Adam stepped out from behind the screen.

“You were too kind to him,” Prince Adam said as he poured himself a glass of water. “If it were me, I would have had him killed on the spot.”

“Death is too easy,” I said, watching the tent flap sway. “Let him live. Let him face the woman he destroyed with his own hands, the same woman who also ruined everything he had. That is the cruelest punishment.”

Prince Adam nodded. “True. In Evelyn’s condition, living is worse than dying. And this is far from over.”

He took a sealed letter from his coat and handed it to me.

“This is a private message from Franklin,” he said. “He wrote that for every day Evelyn stays alive, his hatred for werewolves fades a little. But if she dies, or if she lives too comfortably, he won’t hesitate to start another Southreach Hunt.”

I took the letter and looked at the elegant, flowing vampire script. A chill ran through me.

“So Evelyn must live,” I said. “And she must suffer.”

“Exactly.” A cold light flashed in Prince Adam’s eyes. “Once we return to the Royal Court, I’ll report everything to my father. Evelyn will lose her rank. All her past honors will be turned into charges against her. For the sake of the kingdom’s reputation, we won’t reveal the details of how she tortured the vampire prince. But the charge of reckless ambition that led to the total loss of her unit will be enough to lock her away for life.”

He paused, then changed his tone. “However,” he said, “she was appointed Luna of the Duskfang Pack by both the council and the king. Throwing her into prison would embarrass the crown. So, the best solution is to let her ‘recover’ within the Duskfang Pack.”

I understood at once.

This was the unspoken pact he had reached with Franklin.

Evelyn would not be killed. She would become the offering used to calm the rage of the vampires,

She would live out her days in endless pain, regret, and public disgrace.

“That is a punishment worse than death,” I said quietly.

Her face was ruined. Her body was broken. Her reputation was destroyed. She was rejected by her mate and despised by the world.

For someone as proud as Evelyn, this was a living hell.

“As for you, Cindy,” Prince Adam said, his gaze softening, “you’ve done great service. My father has already

issued his decree. When we return to the Royal Court, you will receive the highest honor. The rebuilding of Silverpeak Pack will also receive full royal support.”

“I don’t care about rewards,” I said, shaking my head. “I just hope this kind of tragedy never happens again.”

“It won’t,” Prince Adam said as he stood beside me. “With us here, the honor of Silverpeak Pack will not fade. And Southreach will finally know real peace.”

I looked outside the tent.

The snowstorm had stopped.

Sunlight broke through the clouds and fell across the white-covered land.
