Chapter 125 King Ryken Gone Too Far

Cindy’s POV:

I took a deep breath and forced Diana’s killing urge back down. Even so, I knew my eyes must have looked cold.

“Your Majesty,” I said, meeting her gaze. Cindy’s voice was calm, terrifyingly so. “I am a soldier. My worth lies in whether my spear can pierce an enemy’s heart and whether the land behind me stays safe. Whether I’m still innocent has nothing to do with my ability to cut down vampires.”

Queen Isabella paused while peeling a grape. She clearly had not expected that answer from me.

The disdain in her eyes faded a little, replaced by something more calculating.

“What a sharp tongue,” she said, wiping her hands. Her tone suddenly turned strange. “Since you’re so confident, this works out well. King Ryken is worried that the Silverpeak bloodline will end. He asked me to hear your thoughts.”

She paused, then dropped a name that made both Diana and me feel sick.

“What do you think of Prince Niall?”

“Prince Niall?” I frowned.

“Prince Niall is His Majesty’s younger brother and of pure royal blood,” Queen Isabella said, watching my face closely. “His private life is… lively, but he is still a prince. If you marry him, you would be a princess consort. You would enjoy wealth and status and use the royal blood to continue the Silverpeak line. It is a great favor.”

“That’s disgusting!” Diana roared inside me. “Only animals in heat would accept that. Prince Niall reeks of rot. He’s an empty man ruined by desire. If he touches us, I’d rather destroy myself!”

I looked at Queen Isabella.

I understood her intention the moment I saw her eyes.

This was not her idea.

It had to be King Ryken’s.

What right did he have to interfere in my private life?

“Your Majesty,” I said with a cold smile. My alpha presence burst out, making the cup in her hand tremble. “Please tell His Majesty this: Cindy Spencer is a warrior, not a breeding animal for the royal family. The honor of Silverpeak was forged in blood and fire. It does not need to be preserved by surrendering to a man with a filthy reputation.

“If His Majesty insists,” I stepped forward, my eyes sharp as blades, “then I will give up my command, never marry, and return to the Northmere to guard my family graves for the rest of my life.”

When she heard my answer, Queen Isabella’s tense posture relaxed at once.

Most of the hostility in her eyes vanished; she even showed a look of relief.
