Cindy’s POV:

After Morton left, the estate fell into a deep, heavy silence.

“Three months…”

I slumped into the chair. My mind replayed that verbal decree again and again. It wasn’t written down, but it pressed heavily on my chest.

“He’s forcing us, Cindy,” Diana paced in my mind, her tail lashing the ground. “This isn’t a choice. It’s a trap. That old king is using that disgusting Prince Niall like a hunting dog, driving us straight into a cage he already built!”

I closed my eyes and rubbed my aching temples.

King Ryken’s move was ruthless.

I had already made it clear to Queen Isabella that I would never consider being King Ryken still pushing?

Was it really about continuing the Silverpeak Pack’s bloodline?

ed with Prince Niall. So why was

But choosing a mate is my personal right. Even a king has no authority to interfere.

My thoughts tangled into a tight knot.

This feeling-being controlled, treated like a chess piece-made it hard to breathe. It was worse than facing thousands of vampires on the battlefield.

“Ah-! No! Don’t come closer!”

A sharp scream suddenly came from the backyard, cutting through my thoughts.

It was Viola.

I jumped to my feet and sprinted outside,

Diana instantly took over part of my senses, sharpening my hearing and smell.

I kicked open the guest room door.

The room was a mess.

Viola was curled up in the corner of the bed, her arms wrapped around her head, her whole body shaking

hard.

On the other bed, Skinny sat upright, drenched in sweat. His eyes were empty, his breathing fast and shallow, like he had just been pulled out of deep water.

“What happened? Viola! Skinny!” I rushed over and grabbed Viola’s shoulders.

She snapped her head up. Her eyes, usually bright and lively, were now red with fear.

“Blood … so much blood…” she cried in a broken voice. Her nails dug into my arm. “I had the nightmare again. I dreamed about the vampires I killed. They turned into ghosts and came for me. Their necks were torn open, blood spraying all over my face! I can’t wash it off! No matter how hard I try!”

“Me too…” Skinny groaned, clutching his head. “Every time I close my eyes, I see broken bodies and missing limbs. My hands feel like they’re covered in blood. Am I a monster now? Am I losing my mind?”

This was PTSD.

For these young werewolves, this was their first real battle, their first taste of hell. This wound was deeper than any injury to the body.

Once the rush of battle faded, guilt and fear came crashing back like a tidal wave.

The air was thick with their panic pheromones, sharp and sour, making it hard to breathe.

“Look at me!”

I shouted and released my alpha’s calming pheromones. The scent was like cold cedar mixed with warm sunlight, cutting through the fear in the room.

“Diana, help me soothe their wolf spirits!”

A giant silver wolf appeared behind me. It lowered its head and gently touched Viola and Skinny’s trembling souls with its nose.

“Listen to me. You are not monsters.” I held Viola’s face and looked straight into her eyes. “The smell of blood you remember is not guilt. It is a medal.
