I clutched my chest and collapsed onto the lounge couch, struggling to breathe. My heart felt like it was about to burst out of my chest.

“Your Majesty, please calm down.”

My wet nurse, Martha Todd, walked over carrying a cup of tea mixed with a calming medicine.

She had served in this palace for decades. No one understood me better than she did.

“That ungrateful son!” I snapped as I took the cup, my hands still shaking. “He said I had no right to control his life! Martha, don’t you think that woman put some kind of dark spell on him? There are so many noble, pure-blood Omegas out there, and he wants that tainted Alpha instead!”

“Your Majesty,” Martha said gently as she rubbed my back, “men like novelty. That Cindy has been a soldier. She carries a wild edge. It probably stirred His Highness’s desire to conquer. “But what about the throne?” I grabbed Martha’s hand in panic. “What if he truly loses his mind over her and the king gives the crown to someone else? My second son is sly; the third is weak. Only Adam has the bearing of a true king. He’s the only right choice!”

Her words finally eased my nerves.

“No. I can’t just sit and watch this happen.” I clenched my teeth, a sharp light flashing in my eyes. “Adam could protect her; I’ll make sure she understands how difficult life in the palace truly is. Tomorrow, summon Cindy to the palace. I will personally teach her proper court manners.”

Then I remembered something else. “Also, look into what happened between her and the Duskfang Pack. I heard things turned very ugly a few days ago.”

“I’ll see to it at once,” Martha replied.

Half an hour later, she returned, clearly pleased with herself.
