Chapter 157 Settling Old Scores
Chapter 157 Settling Old Scores
Queen Isabella’s POV:
This time, the announcement rang out with unusual force, even carrying a faint tremor of awe.
All eyes instinctively shifted off me and turned toward the entrance.

In the next instant, the banquet hall, which had just been as noisy as a marketplace, fell completely silent. It wasn’t the silence of courtesy, but the suffocating stillness that came from sheer beauty and presence.
A moon-white figure appeared in the doorway.
She walked against the light, each step landing right on the nerves of everyone watching.
The hem of her gown shimmered with the aura of Silverpeak Pack, as if she had wrapped the moonlight of the entire night sky around herself.
A faint, elusive smile curved her exquisite lips. Her gaze swept across the room like a proud lion sizing up a pack of yelping mongrels.
The noblewomen who had been gossiping moments earlier shut their mouths.
Lily, who had mocked me so freely, froze.
Even Princess Margaret, so domineering just moments before, let her wineglass wobble slightly in her hand.
I turned my head and watched the woman approaching at an unhurried pace, my emotions tangled and
conflicted.
I’d been worried that this so-called fiancée of Prince Adam would embarrass me. After all, she was known as nothing more than a brute who fought wars.
Yet in this moment, seeing how she subdued the entire room without saying a word, I felt a strange, unfamiliar flicker of anticipation rise within me.
Cindy, you terrifying woman who can send people flying with one punch. Could you perhaps tear those vicious mouths apart for me?
Cindy’s POV:
The moment I stepped into the Crystal Palace, the banquet hall, which had been buzzing like a marketplace, abruptly fell silent..
Countless gazes locked onto me like searchlights.
Some were filled with admiration, others with envy, some with mockery, and some with fear.
I wore the moonweave gown, without any flashy jewelry. The only adornment was a white jade hairpin carved in the shape of a wolf’s fang.

Among these noblewomen who seemed determined to hang every last possession they owned on their bodies, I did stand out.
That was exactly the effect I wanted.
A sharp, cold laugh broke the silence.
The crowd parted automatically as a young woman in a bright red feathered dress stepped forward, her hair glittering with jewels.
She was Lily Lorne, the only daughter of Princess Margaret.
The heavy cloud of perfume around her almost made me stagger.
She was reasonably pretty, but the malice in her eyes was unmistakable, like a venomous snake ready to strike.
“Well, if it isn’t the famous Duchess of Silverpeak Pack,” Lily said, looking me up and down with open disdain. “Is that how you chose to dress? This is my mother’s 68th birthday. Everyone else is dressed for the occasion. And you show up wrapped in white cloth. Which ghost are you supposed to be playing? How utterly improper. And unlucky, too.”
A ripple of low laughter spread through the crowd.
The people from Duskfang Pack laughed the loudest.
I calmly adjusted my sleeve and let my gaze rest on Lily’s feathered gown, which looked as though it had just been hauled out of a dye vat.
“You are mistaken, my lady,” I said with a polite smile. My voice was soft, yet it carried clearly to those nearby. “Even on the most celebratory occasions, one should have a sense of aesthetics. Your riot of colors may be meant as a birthday tribute to the Grand Princess, but to anyone unfamiliar, it looks more like a circus clown preparing for a performance.”
A snort of laughter escaped from somewhere in the crowd.
Lily’s face flushed a deep, ugly red.
She had likely never been publicly ridiculed like this in her life.
“You … how dare you,” she shrieked, pointing at me in fury. “You uncultured savage. No wonder Duskfang Pack cast you out. If I were James, I would have expelled you too. And I hear Priscilla of the Duskfang Pack is gravely ill. You were her former Luna, yet you didn’t visit her or lift a finger to help. A woman as cruel as you does not deserve to stand here.”
So this was how she planned to dig up old grudges.
