“Yeah.” Adam nodded, and his face became serious. “Aunt Margaret was very loved by my grandfather. She controls a lot of hidden powers. And you’ve probably heard how she handles things too.”
“Are you talking about those rivals of hers who died?” I lowered my voice.
“It’s true,” Adam confirmed my guess. “Her ex-husband was a flirtatious beta baron. Every woman he brought back, whether they were marked or even pregnant, would end up dying in the manor for no reason. Some said they died of sickness, others said it was suicide, but everyone knew what really happened.”
“But,” Adam’s voice dropped even lower. “I saw it with my own eyes. She bit a mother and child to death. That wolf pup was only a baby.”
I gasped, feeling a chill run down my spine.
“So when I scared her earlier by saying vengeful spirits were coming for her, I wasn’t just making it up.” I whispered. “A place like that really does have a lot of bad energy.”
“She’s got a guilty conscience.” Adam snorted. “You did very well. After all these years, you’re the first person brave enough to rip off that layer of disguise right in front of her. I bet she’s not sleeping tonight.”
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
“Your Highness, Your Grace, the food is ready.”
A rich, aggressive aroma of chili and spices instantly filled the entire room.
Staring at the table piled high with fiery red dishes, my appetite was fully awake, and I picked up my fork.
“Here, try this chipotle beef in red chili sauce.” I cut a piece of beef coated in glossy chili oil and crushed peppers and placed it onto Adam’s plate. “This is their signature dish. It’s seriously spicy and packs a real punch.”
Adam looked at that piece of beef that looked like it was on fire. His throat moved as he swallowed.
“Okay,” he said, keeping that elegant smile. “It looks very good,”
Then, under my watchful gaze, he faced it like a man marching to his death and put the beef into his mouth.
Prince Adam’s POV:
If heaven gave me another chance, I would definitely shout “I want soup! Just simple and plain soup!” when we were ordering.
But right now, as a royal alpha, in order to maintain my image in front of my fiancée, I had no choice but to swallow that piece of beef that felt like it was wrapped in lava.
The moment it hit my tongue, I felt like my tongue didn’t belong to me anymore.

It wasn’t just spicy, but a type of pain that shot straight to the top of my head. My mouth felt like it was being bitten by hundreds of fire ants at the same time, and my throat felt like it was on fire.
“How is it?” Cindy looked at me with hope, her beautiful eyes sparkling.
“It’s great.” I squeezed out a few words with difficulty. My voice was already starting to sound weird. “The flavor is very unique.”
I held back the urge to stick out my tongue and grabbed my teacup, gulping down a big mouthful.
Oh no, it was hot tea.
The heat made the spiciness even worse. In that second, I felt like I was about to breathe fire.
Cough, cough!
I couldn’t hold it in anymore. I covered my mouth and coughed hard. Tears started streaming out of my eyes uncontrollably.
