His wolf spirit surged violently inside him, and the fierce Alpha energy spread through the room like an invisible trap, trying to cage me within the suffocating walls of Moonwhisper Residence.
“Cindy!” His words came through clenched teeth heavy with menace and rage. “I’m giving you one last chance. I don’t care what you do, but you’d better bring that old bastard Rupert back to me right now and heal my grandma! Otherwise…”
He stepped forward suddenly; the intense pressure of his Alpha presence nearly choked me. But inside me. Diana growled back defiantly, refusing to back down.
“Otherwise,” James hissed with venom sharp as a snake’s bite, “I won’t hesitate to act myself. Using the oldest, cruelest ritual of the Duskfang Pack, right in front of everyone, I’ll sever this damned bond between us completely! I’ll make you feel what true hell really is!”
I sneered silently at Diana. “Does he really think that’ll scare us?”
“Delusional. Diana whispered with contempt. “He has no idea what our real ace in the hole is. We’ve been wanting to break free from this damned bond for a long time.”
James’s fury only grew when he saw I wasn’t intimidated, his voice rising higher. “That’s not all! Once you’re officially kicked out of the Duskfang Pack, everything you brought from the Silverpeak Pack–your father’s relics, all your personal belongings–will be taken as ‘compensation‘ for Grandma and the pack! You will lose everything and be cast out like a stray dog from our territory!”
So this was his final move, laid out in the open.
He wanted not only my submission and dignity but also the last bits of hope and support my parents left me!
How ridiculous, and how sad. Did he really believe these threats could break me?
Slowly, I lifted my eyes and met James’s face, twisted with anger and greed. My voice was calm, flat, and cold enough to freeze the air around us. “James, do you honestly think you can scare me with that?
“You want to cast me out?” I mocked. “I’ve told you more than once I want out of this bond. You never took me seriously, did you? I’ve been ready to leave this filthy place for a long time.

“As for my personal property,” I said with a colder smile, “it’s the legacy of the Silverpeak Pack, the Spencers. My father earned it with blood and honor. It’s protected by the ancient wolf covenant and is rightfully mine. No descendant of a hero should ever dare to violate that. If you want to take it, then prepare to steal a hero’s legacy and make an enemy of the entire kingdom’s sense of justice.”
I saw the muscles in James’s face twitch painfully. The madness in his eyes slowly faded into disbelief and a faint, almost unnoticed flicker of panic.
He probably never expected me to meet his threats with such cold logic and no fear at all.
“You’re bluffing! These are just scare tactics!” he roared, his fury fierce, but his confidence was clearly shaken.
“If I’m bluffing, go ahead and test me.” I stared at him coolly, my heart empty of fear, filled only with disgust and determination. “James, put away your pathetic threats. Priscilla’s sickness is the bitter result of you and your greedy wolves. As for me …
I paused, speaking each word clearly, “I just want to cut all ties with you and the Duskfang Pack as soon as I can. Your so–called expulsion is just a shortcut to my freedom. But you’d better think carefully about the consequences you’ll bring on yourself and the pack the moment you make that choice.”
At that moment, I felt the fragile threads of our bond weaken even more. The chains around my heart started to loosen.
The madness in James’s eyes faded, replaced by deep confusion and a helplessness he hadn’t even noticed before.
